Help me measure my quinoa, this is frustrating!

So, my big bulk bag of quinoa states that in 1/4 cup (45g) of quinoa DRY, UNCOOKED, there is 30g of carbs. This is fine for me to measure out my target carb intake if all i'm doing is cooking up a single serving for one meal for myself.

But if I'm making a giant batch to throw into a large container in the fridge to grab it whenever I need it, which is what I normally do, what then? A 45g (1/4 cup) serving of cooked quinoa will be inaccurate to the nutrition facts on the bag because of the now added water weight. This must mean that to get 30g of carbs, I need to now double the amount of quinoa to 90g (1/2 cup) when it is cooked? This crap is frustrating, why can't they just list both cooked and uncooked nutrition facts.

Atomini, in general grains double in bulk after cooking, and those that don't double still total out at the amount of water you used. For example: 2 cups dry rice cooked in 4 cups water (using an absorption method) will absorb all that water and will total 4c cooked.

Very simple, and this is how I handle all of my carbs cooked in bulk:

Take a single serving - 45g. You know that's 30g carbs. Let's say you plan to eat it once/day for 7 days and want to cook that in bulk. So you'll cook up 315g DRY. Once it's finished cooking, weigh it out and divide the total by 7 and you'll have your serving size - simple!! Note it'll obviously be much heavier than 45g after being cooked. It's a fool proof accurate way to manage bulk carbs.

Well, would you look at that, I already found the answer myself: http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/...-pasta/10352/2

Pleasing to know that lately I have been severely undershooting my carb intake.... ugh...

Check the link out, its even more than double. By doing a 1/2 cup, you and I would still be undershooting it.

I just weigh mine when it's cooked, hard to gauge in a cup when she's all cooked up and soft

Use a food scale. Cook up a few cups, check the total weight, and divide.

My food scale is an indispensable part of my life lol. But as per the link I showed above, i've been undershooting my carb intake big time. So frustrating.

Just follow my method Atomini. It's easy, fast, accurate, and fool proof, assuming you can handle 3rd grade math!

Haha I figured everything out and just calculated what I REALLY need in terms of amounts. I'm sure if I can handle university level advanced calculus, I can handle this lol. I always thought the last few weeks that my quinoa portions seemed far too small for the amount of carbs I thought I was getting out of it. Go figure I was undershooting it because I misunderstood and miscalulated the amounts. I'm glad I was trying to cut via carb cycling the last 12 weeks, otherwise if trying to bulk up, I would have been VERY frustrated.

^^^this is the best way IMO because the more or less you cook it determines the amount it expands/ absorbs water.

Also not to highjack but where do you get this? I have only been able to find organic version and its like 6 bucks for something like a 16oz bag.

Costco. I used to get the small boxes from the regular grocery stores, but I started making it my primary carb source as of recently (I used to exclusively eat oatmeal), so I am now eating it in bulk amounts. Costco as these giant bags of it that are already pre-rinsed. You don't need to rinse it with water before you cook with this particular brand, I just cook it right in the water right away and boom, done.
