    Yams/Sweet potatoes.

Guys, am I defeating the purpose peeling and NOT eating the skins of my Yams/Sweet potatoes? I just can't seem to choke 'em down.

You're stripping away most of the nutrients which lie right under the skin, but in strict terms of a carb, it's fine either way.

What's the matter with butter? If you're going to use anything it's either butter or coconut oil

    Yes sir.....

Nothing wrong with butter.... Go for grass fed and you get a better fatty acid profile too...

Butter is a good fat source....

The media have made butter and carbs the enemy over the years... But it's just a phase...

Hum....I'm going to have to disagree with that one. There are MUCH better choices for healthy fats.

    Disagree with what?

I'm not saying its better than all other sources of fat....

I'm saying its a good choice and people who are terrified of consuming any butter need to relax a little....

Here is a small extract from John Meadows website regarding Butter

Grass-Fed Organic butter - I saw a shirt once that said "Butter was framed". I thought it was awesome, and how appropriate. So well-put, when you think about how people believe that butter is not heart friendly but margarine is. A study in "Nutrition Week" demonstrated that those who eat margarine have double the heart disease of those who eat butter. The reality is that butter IS HEART HEALTHY! It contains a perfect ratio of Omega 3 to 6; it contains all the fat soluble vitamins, many anti-oxidants like selenium, and much more. The saturated fats are generally short and medium chain for quick and easy digestion and for protection against infection and tumors. Lecithin is also a natural component of butter that assists in the proper assimilation and metabolization of cholesterol and other fats.

Butter also has this thing called "Wulzen Factor" in it. Researcher Rosalind Wulzen discovered that this substance protects humans and animals from calcification of the joints-degenerative arthritis.

I could go on and on about butter, just know that some everyday is good for you.

I just cut em and stuck em on tin foil at 375. And probably cooked for 40 min? The outsides got a lil black on some. But you notice they start to turn dark, and leak brown juice it looks like molasses... Throw a piece in your mouth and bite down and it literally just dissolves into sweet satisfaction... Best kitchen mistake I've made in a while.

Love butter and love baked sweet potatoes. When I was dieting for a show way back when. I was stivig for "0" carbs, three weeks out. At work I was loosing my eyesight, (blurry) could think or concentrate and couldn't stay wake. I left went to a rest and ate 1 baked potato with nothing on it. Take this with a grain of salt maybe but it was a shot of speed, I couldn't seep that afternoon and went back to work like a demon. Ha what a trip. I learned just how a carb like that could pull me out from the depths of nothing for energy.....just a story about baked potatoes and me. ...crazy mike

Quote "What do you think your body would process better? Besides butter tastes way better anyways, margarine is synthetic bullshit"...I like that comment . ...crazy

I take the skins off mine. I slice them up, melt some coconut oil over them the sprinkle a little seasoned salt or pepper and bake on 400 degrees for about 30 minutes..so good!

Ok.....y'all might be right. I'm going to stay away from it.

Lol, I guess I'm terrified of it like you said.

I have a severe allergy to dairy so I couldn't use real butter anyway, but good info.

Just use a little Smart Balance Light. Half the fat, and u still get that buttery taste. I haven't used regular butter in years.

Just whipped up a batch. Next time going to put a lil olive oil under neath, they wanted to stick to the tinfoil a bit
Its disturbing how good these taste....

I bake mine in the toaster oven for about 1.5 hrs with NO FOIL. Just throw the sweet potatoes in and turn oven on. The skin will get crispy and peels right off and the inside is carmelized and super sweet and house smells great. Put a pan or foil under to catch drippings.

Either way, you will be fine. I don't like the skins because they are so tough.
