I have the option to upgrade from 7 Pro and was wondering if it is worth it. What are some of the opinions of it out there?

there are some things to think about. Win 10 forces you to do updates and monitors what you do. I am running it on one machine and my other machines dual boot windows 7 and Linux. Linux is my primary os now a daysOriginally Posted by RangerDanger830
I went back to 8 after 6 hours of playing with 10. Try it, you can always revert back. I did not like it one bit. It's a resource HOG.

I've got two laptops. The one stateside that my wife is using runs Windows 7 and Ubuntu (she prefers Windows, I don't) and my laptop over here is Windows 8 and Ubuntu. Honestly, the only reason I even keep Windows is I have some software that I don't feel like fighting with to get working with Linux so I just pop over to Windows... That said I haven't touched the windows side of the computer in months.
I've had some friends trying to get me to cross over to Mint for a while now. From what I've seen Mint looks a bit more "Windows-ish" in appearance and Ubuntu looks more "Mac-ish".
Beyond that I haven't looked much more into it.
What the fvck are you guys talking about.....
All I know is I buy a computer, connect the Internet, and find Internet explorer or if I feel adventurous..... Safari.
I would use either Firefox or chrome. Not explorerOriginally Posted by Hazard

Linux: free
Every app/program for linux: free
I currently have Mint in a Virtual Box (on a PC), but I prefer Ubuntu.
It's not as easy as Windows or Mac (you'll eventually need to know some command-line shit) but, as Bio-Active stated, practice makes perfect. If you can learn cycling AAS, you can learn any flavor of Linux.
Those of you who are going with Windows 10 might want to look into this and change some settings.

yeah that's true and Linux isn't as vulnerable because executable files to not execute in Linux. To install a virus you would have to compile configure make and install it. Using the repos is the safest way to install software as its free and cleanOriginally Posted by MrFreshmaker
True. And the best thing on Linux is that you don't need an antivirus!Originally Posted by Bio-Active

Well, since you hooligans went off on a Linux tangent I just downloaded 10. I like it, but I'm not picky.
Currently running Windows 10 on two laptops and enjoying the experience. Faster boot up time and I haven't noticed any additional resource drain
windows 10 runs fine. I don't like the privacy part of it and I feel strongly that those settings should be turned of by default. Unfortunately that's not going to happen. So I run windows on my one machine that I game on and everything else is done with a different os.Originally Posted by Charlie6
Well, which ones specifically should I be concerned with. For example, if I was ordering gear online, is there anything on the new windows I should be worried about?
I find the fact that people complain about the privacy absurd since there is a fix for every single privacy complaint I've encountered. The first thing I did was Google the list of issues, figure out which ones I wasn't okay with, and fixed it. Way ahead of you there, apparently I'm the only one though. The privacy terms and conditions aren't even that bad compared to most I've seen from companies anyway.Originally Posted by lovbyts
