    Cortisone for hip pain?

As some of you will remember from a previous thread of mine, I injured my hip a while back while kicking dumbells up for overhead press. It then got worse after it 'popped' a few times while doing heavy squats. Although is has gotten a lot better over the last month or so, I am still hesitant to squat or deadlift, as I still feel a mild pain even when doing light squats. My MRI and Xray results did not show anything serious. Doctor said it was tendinitis (but I think he was just guessing since he couldn't find anything else).

I spoke with a guy in the gym who seems to have had the same type of injury, and he told me that it was a tendon problem. Who knows? All I know is that I would like to be able to squat and deadlift sometime soon again. Do you guys recommend getting a cortisone shot to relieve the pain in my hip? I've never had one before, and I was hesitant because I didn't want to mask the pain of a big problem, but since the doc is telling me that there's nothing major wrong, I've started to seriously think about it...

A bit about the injury: I can now go down into a squat position without any pain (body weight); I can feel it very slightly when I have 135lbs. on my back (haven't tried any more weight than that); I feel mild pain when twisting my leg outward; every once in a while, when I go down into position, it will 'click' on the way back up; when I'm climbing stairs, sometimes it feels like it 'catches' (you know how it feels when you're popping a joint? Yea, it almost feels like it needs to be 'popped'...but it doesn't pop if I try). When it catches while climbing stairs, it feels like it catches on the posterior of my hip (outer, upper leg), however, the pain I feel comes from the inside hip crease. When I say 'pain', it's really more of an irritation.

What are your guys' thoughts on this?

It can help with the pain but does nothing or little for the actual injury.

I would supplement with MSN, Collagen and of course TB500. I'm going to be trying BPC-157 to see if it helps with the shoulder injuries.

No on the cortisone, it will make swell up on water retention without fixing the problem.

You need to go to a physical therapist and start working on those hip and core muscles to help you stabilize it.

I agree it will mask the problem and make you think that its been fixed and you will go workout and may be worse could happen better to stay away from it.

Cortisone shots reduce inflammation at the injury site, but the placement of the injection is critical. I have had favorable results with Cortisone Shots on various body parts. If you Doc adds Triamcinolone to the shot, the results are even better. Best results have been when my Ortho guides the needle to the correct spot using ultrasound. No harm in trying, as they can only give one injection of this every 60 days (or something similar time-wise)...

Looks like the majority vote no. Looks like I'll be laying off the squats and DL for a while and gearing up on the TB 500. I'll keep you all posted. I'll also look into the MSN and collagen that lovbyts suggested. Thanks, guys!
