    Cardio question

I just started doing cardio this way. To get that optimum fat burn for 45 minutes to an hour, my heart rate needs to be between 131 and 141. The problem is at my gym the little handles on the treadmills that are supposed to measure your heart rate when you grip them don't work... so what's a good pace? I'm currently doing 3.7-4 on a 1.5 incline. Is this sufficient?

not really sure what you mean by this.. I'd have to consistently be calculating numbers while feeling my wrist while running? I dunno. What pace do some of you younger guys usually go at when doing cardio this way?

3.7-4 is running?? I walk on a 14% incline at 2.5 and mine stays between 130 and 145 depending on how close my last clen dose was

you should be able to talk but not sing...try humming a tune or lightly singing and if you can you aren't working hard enough...it is non-panting exercise...

take your pulse for 15 seconds and multiply it by 4 to get your bpm, if you need to be between 131-141 then your pulse for 15 seconds needs to be 32-35

Buy a heart rate monitor, they are cheap and as you sound serious about cutting why leave things to chance?

I bought one and I tripped out when my tred mill picked up the signal. I didn't know that they were meant to work with the sending units.

Problem was that the three or four tredmills around me were picking up my signal also. If you were working out next to me, you would be stuck with my heart rate on your tredmill.

i think the hr monitor is a great idea as well. that's what i always use, as you can always accurately check where your hr is at. i don't concern myself with speed or distance or any of that while doing cardio. to me, it's keeping my hr within my target for however long i plan to do so.

i would highly advise getting one, as it's very hard to make a judgement as to what intensity you should do your cardio until you can keep track of your hr. i can get up to 160-165bpm and still hold a conversation, but i know that hr is just too high for fat burning.
