    Maxin Out

Since I resumed weight training three months ago, I have been finishing the final set of major compound exercises with 3-4 reps. For example, on flat bench, my fourth and last set will consist of 4 reps of 200 llbs. In this example, I am maxing out on my fourth rep using a spotter. My objective, like most, is to gain mass.

I have, so far, stayed away from a one rep max set. For example, I have yet to attempt pushing up 225 for one rep to complete exercise. How often, if at all, should I be integrating this into my workout? Is it necessary?

    Thanks in advance...

when i feel where im at a sticking point in my training, where im not seeing too much strength increases, then i'll shock the muscle by doing a 1 or 2 rep max. after i max out all the other weights feel a little lighter then they used to. it also builds my confidence. im more sure of myself. have someone there to watch you.

I do one rep maxes once every 6-8 weeks just to gauge my progress and shock my system to tell it what I expect out of it in the future...that's about it...I have no delusions about it actually helping build mass
