Thread: should i chill out?

    should i chill out?

i've been reading alot of posts where you guys state that you workout for like an hour or even less sometimes. the most time people do is about an hour and a half.

my questions are, is what you're doing really enough, or am i overtraining? and if i backed off, would i see better gains??
    my split looks like this:

    day 1: quads/biceps
    day 2: hamstrings/triceps/calves
    day 3: shoulders/traps
    day 4: bi/tri's/calves
    day 5: legs
    day 6: back/bi's
    day 7: chest/tri's/calves

    **no cardio

i love this split, and i do up to 24 sets for leg muscles, back, chest, and shoulders. about 18 for bi/tri/calves. i hit bi/tri/calves frequently because i want to bring those up a little.

as you can see this makes for a long day, 3hrs usually. this is mostly on cycle, but when i'm off it is around 2 hours. i rarely take days off while on cycle and i usually have one day off when i'm off cycle.

i live off of the philosophy of more is better and i don't know if that is the right stance to take here. thanks brothers.

do you not have a rest day at all? You body recovers and grows when you rest. IMO i think you are overtraining even though you are on gear. Eventually your gonna be knackered from doing so much. I mean three hours a day, thats a total of 21 hours a week! When do you have time to eat lol

Seriously though back off a bit

i dont know, i was always a big believer in more is better, but your training some bodyparts 3x a week...i know when i train the parts i work are usually sore for around 2 days ...i couldnt imagine hitting bi's 3x in one week tho

that being said if it works do it...u may want to set aside 3 months and try going to the gym 3-4 days a week and rest and eat the remaining days and compare your gains

i went from doing extremly high volume 5 days a week, to HIT method 3 days a week and got great results

Yes , I would try doing less and see what kind of results you get. I am a believer in recovery and I don't see it in your schedule. Try what DedicateD suggested for a change and trial.

That would be way too much for me. For instance when I do bi's they are sore for at least 3 days, no way I would try to hit them 3 times a week, especially not 2 days apart. Everyone is different, if this works for you good deal, but I would try to spread it out a bit more and include some rest days just to see if you get better results.

Yah id say thats over training. It might be working good but doing less might work just as good or better.

I know peoples bodies are different and nothing is set in stone, but we are all the same in the fact that we need to recover. I can not see how in the hell his body is recovering from that schedule. I would be willing to bet my left testicle that if you did a 1/4 of that workload, you would see better gains. Shit bro, you could take off a good 2 weeks and get back in there and get better gains....your body has got to be beaten to hell! What do you do for a living and how much sleep do you get nightly?

    thanks everyone

what i have been doing was working good, but has kind of leveled off. i'm 5'10around 250lb. at 12% bodyfat. i want to eventually get up to around 300, and maybe if i try changing it up with more recovery time it could get me past this sticking point?

more rest is very tempting as i would get a break, but it will be hard to go from doing as much as i did to feeling like i am doing so little, you know what i mean? working out is the highlight of my day.

i have never used anyone else's routine, so what is a good routine that utilizes recovery time well? can anyone give me a workout they use or have used that they like?

    thanks bros

Do you go to a gym to train? I know for alot of people, it is a very social thing and they like to be around people. Even if they just focus on there workout and are not just talking to people, they feel it is there hangout. I train at home, and find I get to business much better that way, so workouts tend to use up less of my time.

If you wanted to switch to a lower volume routine, try a 4 day split that incoporates heavy compound movements (bench, squat, DL, military press, rows) and you'll find it hard to train body parts more than once a week. I train sunday, monday, off tuesday, wednesday, thursday, off friday and saturday. sunday is bench/chest, monday is squats/legs, wednesday is shoulders/tris, thursday is deadlifts/back/bis. 16 sets for large body parts, 12 for smaller, all very heavy.
