    Pushups Before Starting Weights

If someone hasn't lifted weights in several years, would it be a good idea to start with pushups and situps for a few weeks before starting weights. I've had back injuries that put me out for a while and am ready to get back in shape. I have about 30lbs of fat to lose and I'm currently walking/jogging and riding a bike for 1hr 5 times a week. Still working on my diet to get it in check. Any advise will be appreciated.....

Yeah, thats fine, I wouldnt do situps though, there a bit hard on the neck, back, esp since your coming back from a long layoff. Just do a few crunches, or something similar.

push ups are great!!! It sounds like you have the right idea. The best thing to do in your situation is find a personal trainer with good feedback from others and have them get you going. They can design a workout just for what you are looking for especially with your back issues.

Push-ups, dips, sissy squats with a plate, squats without weight, pull-ups. They are all great and I used to do those primarily when I was poor as hell.

I agree here and i would def do plenty of core exercise to create a good foundation and strengthen your lumbar. Make sure to stretch it out as well, stretch the hams and glutes well to prevent sciatic and other prob's with your back.
