    Cardio before or after...Reasons why?

    Ok.....geting conflicting stories.

Cardio before or after lifting. My schedule does not allow time to do cardio any other time than when I am working out.

This is what I would do if I was in your situation. I would workout first and then drink a protein shake and eat a banana. I would wait 15-30 min and then do my cardio. Make sure you get that protein and banana in there tho because you are most anabolic right after your workout.

Do not do cardio before your workout because then you may lose some energy before you even start your first set.

    Just my opinion,

I have been doing 20 minutes or 6 miles on the bike prior to 45 minutes of weight training. I always drink 40 grams of quick acting whey protein within 15 minutes of finishing workout. Then eat a high protein meal within 1.5 after the workout as well.

I trying to determine if it would be beneficail in anyway to doing cardio after. I'm not too worried about getting tired doing cardio before but I do want to know if the body reacts differently if done after than before?

    Did that make sense?

If you weight train 1st you will burn up your muscle's glycogen stores and then when you do your cardio 2nd you will immediatly go into fat stores. This of course, if your doing low-mod level cardio. Doing cardio 1st deletes the glycogen neccesary to train heavy.

Whole point of weight traing is to build muscle. You will build muscle more effieciently if you do cardio after you workout. So just do it after.

There is really no benefit in doing cardio beforehand unless you are just doing 5 minutes to warm up.

I disagree, I believe you need some form of protein in your system beforehand, not a fan of fasted cardio at all!

Cardio before your workout is the most retarded thing you can do.

Cardio burns glycogen, which is what your muscles use for lifting power. Cardio will wreck your weight workout, but weights will not wreck your cardio workout. You may not be able to do cardio as fast, but you'll actually burn more calories because your heart rate is higher and your glycogen is more depleted.

Same principle as doing tri's before chest... why the fukk would you wreck your chest workout, when you can just do tris after?

    AFTER AFTER AFTER AFTER AFTER!!!!

But, I'd say don't eat any carbs in between the workout and the cardio. It would totally defeat the purpose of depleting the glycogen stores.

you need strength for weights. cardio is a question of heart rate. what the other guys said

I have tried cardio in the A.M., cardio PWO before PWO shake, cardio pre-workout and I honestly like doing cardio before weights, I think it helps me maintain a decent heart rate and I really feel I get better pumps as well. Mind you I do not max, EVER, never have never will. Im not a power lifter. I only feel a detriment on my joints when I get close to maxing.

I have still managed to get stronger and slightly bigger, definitely leaner(diet permitting). My workouts have been much more intense since I have started doing cardio first. I maintain a fat burning heart rate during cardio and keep it there or slightly higher during the rest of my workout.

I will do cardio for 20-30 minutes pre or post workout(more often than not I feel too spent to do cardio after). During the time I am doing cardio pre-workout I am mentally preparing myself, clearing my head of the days BS, as well as deciding my routine for the day.

I think this is one of those things that is not set in stone, just like anything else. Sure on paper one thing or another makes total sense but this works for me and I dont plan on EVER changing it. I feel it is a matter of figuring out what works for your body.

I do plan to do cardio in the A.M. as well to get into a bit better summer shape if the damn weather would get a bit warmer.

I probably dont work out like most of you either though, exercises yes, as far as routine I doubt it, to each his own though. I do not desire to be a monster either though.

this all depends on what you are looking to do...if you are more worried about lifting, gaining strength, muscle, then yes do cardio after....if not you can do it before or after, or both if that's what you're really looking for. experiment a little and see what how you react!
