    good military press?

hey dudes, all i ever hear is talk about a good bench press...i think a good military press is just as important...so whats the standard for a military press i can bang out 13 reps at 150 seated and 15 reps at 130 standing.....is that good...I am 6'3 215 with very long arms...

The long arms will def screw ya pretty good, try not to lock out at the top and make it more of a pump motion. Locking out will involve your tri's anyway which you dont want. I do 205 for about 6 reps seated and 135 for 6-8 standing. Im 5'10" about 180lbs right now. Its all relative tho man, just try to keep making progress. I know there are def guys on here that will throw 225 around on military likes it nothing. Also, if you are going for strength gains only you should be doing lower reps.

LOL! No, i never do them standing. Probably didnt even need to post that bc i cant even remember last time I did them standing. I dont go behind the neck either. Its either military or DB press for me as far as shoulder press goes.

I cant even imagine trying to do 225 standing, lol. Ive just always felt that seated isolates them better, less core involved, not that there is anything wrong with involving your core during a lift, I just like to isolate when im doing a shoulder press. But now you guys are making me feel bad, maybe I should start doing them, LOL!

Yup, i cant even imagine. Im only 5'10" but have longer arms and it def screws with my bench. I have a friend who's 5'6" always braggin about his bench. Its like yeah man your bench is better than mine bc your moving the bar about 6 inches of your chest with your stubby little arms, LOL!

Standing is the way to do them.

Then throw in some power cleans

I do mine seated, but I only go down and touch the top of my head. I find this movement really isolates the delts and doesn't cause some problems with going behind the neck.

I never do standing military, but can put up 245 for 6-7 on the seated free weight at 6'2. I still haven't decided if I like bb or db military press better, so I just go on 4 week stretches, then switch between the two.

With the seated press you can't cheat. Most people unknowingly turn their M-press into a push press in an attempt to get numbers.
