If you can do Hypoxic Swims, do them.

But you should always have someone around because people tend to black out doing them.

They are tough as shit lol

If your going for distance, learn the combat swimmer stroke. Its like an updated version of the side stroke.
Its what the Navy SEALs use.

Yeah we did that shit in Cherry point for our nautical training... marines love abusing sailors... nothing like doing recon swim training... ive never been so miserable in my entire career.

Anyways - Is swimming harder to gain a good heart rate?

    I really don't know.

In my experiences, it seems I get worked up a lot quicker and more so swimming, than the treadmill or bike.

Just get in the pool and run as fast as you can. Then follow that up with butterflies, then freestyle. That should tighten you up some.

played high school waterpolo and did four years of swim team.. been swimming all my life (up untill i got lazy and gained my gut lol). for beginners, i recommoned you do something like 10 x 50's. a 50 is two laps in a jr. olympic pool, which is what balleys usually use... so do 10 x 50's at 1 min intervals. so if you complete the 50 at lets say 30 seconds, you have 30 seconds to rest till your next set. repeat this for a week untill it becomes easy. when it does become easy, up it to 10 x 100's, that's 4 laps and do it at like 2 min intervals. your goal is to do 10 x 200 under 2:30.. this is high school champion level waterpolo swimming. we used to do this as out morning exercise 5 days a week, n if your looking to cut, this is the way to go. keep it to freestyle swimming and learn to flip turn at the end of your lap, it will only help your breathing at the end.. feel free to ask any further questions.

i would think if you get in there and swim ur ass off, do sum under-water boxing moves- i think as long as ur workin ur ass off in the pool then that's "working you out"

don't put too much thought into it..or just watch the olympics- you'll get sum good ideas there!!

lol, dude, doing boxing moves in a pool isn't gonna give you a work out... honestly thats how they run senior citizen water aerobics classes... read my post above, you wanna cut using water, that's how you do it

that would definitely work. for wrestling we did swim workouts twice a week in the morning before school, just to hit more muscles that practice doesn't. we did a lot of laps, groups of 3 going for 45 minutes to an hour, then did stuff with the edge, like sit ups in and out of the water, lifting yourself up all the way, then going back down under the water, putting your feet on the edge and doing strokes with your arms, holding on the wall and kicking.

it wouldn't make you into a great swimmer but it definitely got you awake in the morning, and works some more muscles

wwwhooooowwww there tough guy, lol... there's the right way of cardio in the water and there's every other way, swimming is the right way... well, at least swimming intervals like iv said before.. im sure light dumbells will get you going in the pool, but that'll get you going outta the pool too... if your going to do something, do it right and to the maximum benefit of your body... isnt that the philosophy here???????

nothing personal buddy, not like your idea is BAD...
