then I would look at my rep range, if it is causing pain to the point where you need to medicate yourself, I would consider warming up more, maybe literally heating up your shoulders before you lift or lower the weight a bit for some time.
I am sure you can think of a better way to alleviate the pain and not have to use painkillers, I don't recommend taking any kind of medication to make your pain go away, pain is there for a reason, to tell you something is wrong. Sure once or twice isn't going to kill you, it won't do THAT much good either but, I have seen myself and others get hooked on shit from just once or twice. Even ibuprofen.
Vicodin is the only thing I have ever found myself literally addicted to.
