    Cottage Cheese

    Hi Guys,

Just wonder why I never hear anything or see anything on here about cottage cheese. I often try to throw it in especially just a bit before bed for that nice slow digesting part that keep my metabolism pumped and running. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Awesome okay thanks dude yeah I just don't see it much pop up in peoples diet. I always try throughout the day to chuck it in! Why would it not be mentioned much in here?

It's mentioned here often enough, you must be missing the threads!

I have it every other night. I go with a 1% milkfat, no salt added variety and add a tsp of sugar free jelly to 1 cup of CC. Take note of the sodium content of regular cottage cheese as it can sometimes be relatively high.

Thanks Gbrice! Yeah I'm reading enough but must be just randomly not getting the diet threads and people asking questions with Cottage Cheese in them. The stuff I eat regularly is just plain jane with no fruit. Per 1/2 cup it is 100Cal 510Sodium 15GProtein 7GSugar Sound about right? You right on looks like a whole lot of sodium. I guess the good thing is that I don't even keep salt in my household but still that is a lot.

    thanks guys!

Indeed it is one of the best forms of protein to eat

I had some organic natural cottage cheese on the spoon the other day

Regardless of how good it is, I just can't stand it

And to hell if im gonna be force feeding myself this stuff even though it's nutritious

unless I can find something to add it to to make it taste any better, any ideas?

I don't know many people who actually enjoy the flavor (or lack thereof) cottage cheese. I add a tsp of so of sugar free preserves - I prefer raspberry.

Other than that, how about just going with a casein powder?

And I find that odd...cause I love it! Most that I know of don't choose it because of the consistency of cottage cheese. Those are the ones i tell my "cottage cheese" story to. ...oh, remember...I'm a food microbiologist....I have stories of how things are made!

I'll state for the record I don't hate it. I don't LOVE it, but it doesn't bother me - neither the taste nor consistency/texture. I add the preserves to spice it up a bit, not necessarily to 'cover up'.

I have always liked it, when I was a kid I put salt and pepper on it for dinner and sugar on it for dessert (okay so I still do this). I prefer full fat.

As I said, I eat it every other night. The nights I don't eat it, i'm doing a scoop of ON Chocolate casein with a serving of PB2 powdered peanut butter. It's so effing good, I now get angry on the nights I have to eat the cottage cheese! Not that I HAVE to, but I don't want to have shakes every single night as I still believe real food is superior.

made that stuff at work a few months ago. its kinda weird.

your used to regular old creamy smooth peanut butter, then you try the powdered stuff and it taste almost identical to it.

When I first bought it, I tried mixing it with water as instructed but didn't find it to be on par with real peanut butter. Now, I just mix it with my casein shake at night and it adds a great flavor!

i dont see what the point is in buying powder when you can just buy a jar of creamy stuff lol. but that sounds really good. do the macros change at all when its in powder form?

Absolutely. They get it into a powder form by pressing out just about all of the oil, therefore the fat content drops drastically.

I should mention that peanuts are a relatively healthy fat, so if you have room within your daily macro's to have regular peanut butter (all natty), go for it. I don't, but still want the flavor so that's why I have this stuff.

I somehow got lost along the way. You have a machine that turns oil to powder, and what is tapioca maltodextrin and what did you use it for?

we just have a food processer. basically like a heavy duty blender, that doesnt get food as finely cut.

here is a brief explantation on tapioca maltodextrin

    Tapioca Maltodextrin - USA -

Tapioca Maltodextrin a modified food starch that thickens and stabilizes fatty compounds. Used by pastry chef Alex Stupak of Alinea to turn peanut butter in granular powder form that reconstitutes instantly in your mouth.
Tapioca maltodextrin is produced from tapioca starch by a natural enzymatic process to give desirable fat-like and stabilizing properties. These maltodextrins can be used as a fat-replacer in desserts, cheese products, and ice cream. Some of the benefits include the neutral flavor which makes it an excellent flavor release with improved smooth texture. Maltodextrins can gel in cold water, has a high water binding capability and has good freeze/thaw stability. The off-white color and low application rate of 2% to 10% makes it a great substitute for fat, milk, gums and other stabilizers.

idk if i can post the link, so if i cant ill take it down.

we also have other chemicals that can do crazy things. i make "caviar" from dijon mustard and worcestershire sauce. and make fennel noodles.

i've only seen people have it in their meals before bedtime (slow digesting)

can you also put it with mid-day meals as a snack? like at 10am or 2pm? i do fasted cardio at 7am and weights at 6pm. I'm assuming it will need to be paired with a veggy of some sort.

Yep thats the exact one I had to, rancid stuff

I have a big ass bag of 100% calcium caseinate which I could use but I have any whey to cut it with at the moment
When calcium caseinate is mixed with milk it turns into a solid substance that is impossable to drink/remove

@gbrice75 I might try some berry extract or something of the sort sometime
and don't talk to me about peanut butter NOM NOM NOM I think im addicted
QUICKLY HOOK IT UP TO MY VEINS!
