Can anyone here read an MRI??

Too make a long story short I have a brother that we think suffers from depression. He struggles with a lot of things in life. Its really sad because he cannot hold a job does not communicate with his family and sits in his room doing nothing. My father is a know it all and refuses to push (my brother lives at home with them still at 32 and has everything paid for/ ENABLED) him to get help.

So for the past four months he has sat in his room barely coming out because of an injury. While we all have no doubt that he is hurt we think it is exaggerated and its something he can live with. I have the MRI and would love to get someone who knows how to read this thing to give me their opinion.

We know we wont get the truth about the DR's diagnosis so if I could throw this thing up and get some feed back it owuld be great....

    What was the injury?

Has he seen a psychiatrist or anything?

My uncle was very depressed. He was already pretty down and he got injured. Moved back in with his mother. Did nothing all day, basically stopped talking. . Went on for about a year. he said that he was going for a walk one day and hung himself...

He has been complaining of leg and back pain.

Thats what we are afraid of that one day he is going to say wtf am I going to do with my life and hurt himself.

He has not seen a Dr. He says there is nothing wrong with him and when my other brothers and mother speak to my father telling him my bro needs help he gets pissed and starts saying there is nothing wrong with him. My father is a huge part of the problem. He has this not my kid mentality. Is as ignorant as they come.

from the MRI report, it looks like there is enough evidence to say that his pain is not fake. the condition is not very serious, but clearly its not normal.

is he already on analgesics and anti-depressants?

    Rwy,

I'll look at the radiological narrative tonight and give you my clinical impression. Would you like the response here or via PM?

I agree there is def something up but to what extent? Is it really crippling him from not being able to leave his bed for four months?

He is not taking any medication for depression. He refuses to even believe there is anything wrong with him or is afraid to admit it. This has been his life for the past four months. Go to bed between 5am-8am wake up around 7pm go to a fast food place (wendys taco bell) bring it into his room and not leave. He smokes cigarettes, probably has not done anything active in 10 years, eats fast food everyday. He is the poster child for leading an unhealthy life.

if i were to guess, i would say no. it should not give rise to a serious disability. i bet if you were to scan all the lifters here, half of them will have similar injuries.

having said that, not everyone deal with pain the same way. and not every patients' symptoms correlate perfectly with the xray picture. and you already know he may have a mood problem on top of his back problem.

in other words, he probably will need to be treated on both fronts. pain meds and mood meds.

but i am just guessing here

Depressed people make more out of pain then others. I have researched and learned this. Normal person gets a paper cut its a tiny painful cut but to a depressed person its like losing an arm.
