    OATS versus OATMEAL in recipes

I am going to be making a few of the recipes from this forum. Some say:

    2 cups of OATS

    2 cups of oatmeal

I went to the supermarket and picked up the Old fashioned version of Oats and the quick 1 minute version.

    Would both work??

One thing I am making is a protein meatloaf and the other are some Oat Biscuits.

Yes, I make lean meatloaf all the time using oats. I would substitute at least some of the tomato paste with other vegetables that are less sugar filled, but that's minor. IMO the less processed the better - I use old fashioned quaker oats, rather than the quick or packeted versions. Seems to me it's a more complex carb and takes longer to break down than quick oats.

Is there sugar in the pack of quick oats?

Those packs are such a waste of money.... My gf's mom buys them... They are 10x the price as standard oats with the only difference being u use the pack to measure your liquid lol

Always oats over oatmeal if I can help it. I prefer to control as much ingredients as possible in recipes. I don't want manufacturers sweetening/flavoring for me.

The only difference is whether they contain added sugar/flavoring and how finely chopped they are (for regular vs quick oats).

I think "quick" oats may also be broken down a bit more using water, etc before they're packaged. Could be wrong though.

I think they are just processed to be a little finer..... As if you just put normal oats in the blender for a few seconds....

I don't buy into all these fancy oats.... I just buy the cheapest store brand crap and its fine....

Yeah, it's the cornerstone of my carb intake, i use tons of it. I get the 10 pounder @ Costco for $5. Wish protein was that cheap!
