    Why inmates are so jacked>>

I have my own logical theory about this, and i've felt like many people are too misinformed when it comes to this subject. By no means is all of this backed up by 100% facts, but these are explanations to some questions people may have.

STEROIDS IN PRISON: Fairly Rare. The chances of you being able to get smuggled in needles and vials in the first place, is pretty hard, but not unheard of. But when you mix that with the fact that prisons check inside the letters that are sent to inmates from the outside, and that they have regular drills where they clear everyone out weekly and check their cells for contraband, it makes for a rough cycle. You could be all safe and sound with your steroids for a good 2 weeks, and then a cell check happens, and you're deprived of everything you have and most likely will get in trouble for having weapons and illegal substances. So in turn, you'll be getting 2 weeks of gains in exchange for no commissary and a natural test suppression = NO FUN.

COMMISSARY: Average prison inmates are served 2,900 calories per day through their 3 meals. That amount is slightly above maintenance in it's own. So VERY possible to continue building muscle with a slightly above maintenance diet that is REQUIRED to have a regulated amount of vitamins and minerals etc. Let's say that during the 1 hour that you are able to go outside you burn a couple hundred calories. That puts you at around maintenance. That's where commissary comes in. You're able to buy things like Mackerel, Peanut Butter, Creatine, and protein powders etc. that help you with your goal protein and carb intake and make it extremely easy for you eat in a surplus regularly throughout the year.

WORKOUTS: Many inmates workout so that they can stay sane, have something to do, and build muscle because they want to look intimidating so they aren't prey to other inmates. While many of us, (Not all by any means) use working out as a chore to stay in shape or to do something like impress women etc. So the motivation is not quite as high, and with peoples tight schedules, sometimes workouts can be cut short some days. Not in prison! Inmates sometimes have 2 a day workouts, where they'll be working out in the morning for a couple of hours, and then when it's time to go outside, will have another lift with the limited equipment they have. Not many people have the time to do that. Also, prisoners have workout buddies to motivate them through workouts. And the intimidation factor also can set in, when they see others watching them from other groups, their motivation skyrockets and it makes them want to keep lifting instead of cutting their lift short like someone on the outside would when they get tired so that they look tougher. With all the time on their hands, they're able to develop routines, and figure out what way their body grows best. Which is very important IMO.

REALITY OF MOST INMATES: Most inmates do NOT look like the big, huge ones you see on TV or in movies. Most of them are just regular sized people. PLENTY of inmates are actually very out of shape and unmotivated by their situation, and also quite a decent amount of them have some good genetics as well. The typical "Big Joe" in prison has a gut. It's because he's eating a big surplus of calories and even though he's working out alot, he's storing fat as well because he isn't in a deficit. In my conclusion, i'd say the average "Big Joe" prison inmate, has more of a powerlifters body rather than a bodybuilders body because of their lack of cardio, and inability to want to control their eating for any reason whatsoever. People aren't looking to get smaller in prison, not many diets i would think.

I will probably get flamed for not putting genetics in it's own category. The reason i didn't is because that's not the part of the equation that people aren't understanding, and it's not really something that needed to be addressed to anyone with some common sense. As for testosterone, i don't believe the whole "People in jail usually have naturally high amounts of testosterone which makes them aggressive and violent that's why they're there in the first place."

^The reason i don't believe that shit is because everyones situation is different. You don't necessarily have to be an aggressive person to land you a decent prison sentence. Sometimes life presents you with situations where you make the wrong decision, and regardless of whether you're a naturally aggressive person or not you can still be caught up and make the wrong one just as fast as the angry guy beating up people on the street. Also, alot of people in prisons are there for non-violence related crimes. Which would defeat the whole purpose of you arguing against me with the whole "They're aggressive so they're prone to violence" debate.

is this a reality or a myth?

Now, I've never been in anything other than county, but I would imagine a proper diet is hard to get. Time in the gym is a premium.

I see lots of movies where guys in prison are jacked, but is this a reality?

So in my town, we have a population of 65,000

    and we have three gyms.

assume a membership of 1,000 per gym or 3k total. of those, maybe 10% are in gym ready condition (and not "jacked"). that brings us down to maybe 300

is this population density higher or lower than that of the prison population in general?

    do you know?

^ in other words, if you have a prison population of say, Cocharan of 4,500, would that mean you have more or less than 50 guys that are "jacked"?????

It's absolutely higher in prison than 10%. I wouldn't know what gym you were going to where only 10% of the people working out were in "gym ready condition" and not even jacked. But i'm just assuming you're making a rough estimate. But you have to take it into consideration that the prison inmates have the advantage in that category, simply due to the fact that people drop in and out of the gym and that the inmates HAVE TO stay in the confines of a gym-like environment for longer sentences then yearly memberships. People have their new years resolutions and you see all types of clowns flooding the gym that are out of shape, within weeks, these people are all of a sudden gone.

That's a BIG no-no in prison. In reality, you're practically forced growth if you're regularly lifting. You walk into the prison, and you see an overall plethora of people who have been lifting on average probably over a year more than the average gym member. But that's just solely due to the fact that prison is a built-in gym and that there are SO MANY new gym members to even out the numbers so that the gym memberships average persons lifting experience is much lower than that of a prison inmates. My claims are not based on facts or statistics, but it's just such a huge advantage leaning towards prison inmates in this category that i can come up with that reasonable conclusion.

I'd say the percentages were similar. But the extent of "how jacked" people are is definitely more favorable for the avid lifter that's on the outside and has access to PED's etc. because theres only so big a prison inmate can get without those things. Like i said, the real "Big Joes" look like that of a powerlifter rather than a good physique because you'll rarely see anyone cutting up in prison and limiting their calories when they lift alot. But the average guy is def bigger in prison then the average guy is in the gym.

It's a myth, idk about everywhere else but in Australia there's only a portion of people who are jacked. The portion who are have been there for a while as well. It's because there's nothing better to do, it's either get jacked or get high, a lot do both lol.

shit, in my gym, we have oldsters that swim and only do cardio.

we have the aerobics classes with 30 in there at a time

we have the youngsters that are just starting

we have the new years resolution group in there periodically

and then there are the "10%" of us that just keep going.

of course, the ten percent is just a number I pulled out my ass. but it seems right, considering all the activity of all the different gym member types.

if I were to exclude the cardio section, and the aerobics classes, and the swimming pool, that number might jump to maybe 20%. Hard to say.

But yeah. Gym ready to me just means someone that's been at it for a few years, and it is apparent based on their physique.

We have very few truly massive blokes there. Maybe five on any regular basis. And that's spread out over the 24 hours and over the week, so the odds of walking in and seeing one present might be in your favor. Maybe 30 or 40% chance depending on the time of day you go.

It's a 24hour. So it attracts all types.

I will be starting the sister thread to this one : Why Cops are so Fat
I will be referencing topics such as free donuts and coffee and much more.
I will also be asking relevant, thought provoking questions like Why the ones that arent fat are on Steroids yet feel it is ok to arrest others that use them and much much more.

My pops did 10+ years in Fed.Pen. The last 5 he got extremely strong. He won every over 40 powerlifting contest. And these were regional contests. He had a lot of lifting partners, but by no means were the majority of guys "jacked" I visited him once a month and I would say maybe 10% were large dudes and maybe 30% lifted.

That's why i think it's safe to say that well over 10% of the inmates look like they lift often. I'd say more than 30% do exercises, but just don't have a clue how to utilize what's at their disposal and know nothing about their nutrition. The part about that, is that they're going to be there for a while so they have plenty of time to learn. I'd say your post kind of vouched for that, you said he did 10+ years but got his best results after being there for 5 years already.

so how is the food? county sucks.

is the food in prison sufficient to support gains? or do you have to buy out of the commissary? or accept food "donations" in the defac?

Typical dinner is some mashed potatoes, an apple, the prison slop (Mystery meat and some onions peppers etc mixed in),
    carrots/corn and a cookie.

Breakfast was anywhere from nutri grain bars, to pancakes and sausages (low quality).

Lunch was usually something like half of a ham or tunafish sub with green beans, carrots and bread.

You can kind of be the judge. All this stuff adding up to 2,900 calories in total, with all of your recommended amounts of nutritional values met (Supposedly). I would say about 90% of people don't like the terrible tasting vegetables they're given, and don't end up eating about anywhere from 25-60% of the food on the tray throughout the day. So in most cases, the commissary is an absolute necessity for you if you want to be eating in a caloric surplus and meeting your needs as far as protein carbs etc.

I'd also like to note that most bodybuilders are eating much more protein per day than the average person. So even if the person ate all of the prison food required for the day, they'd meet maintenance but would be behind as far as protein % in their diet.

inmates are 'jacked' because they have to be, it's survival of the fittest. it's hard to put into perspective if you haven't done any time......

I've said it before. If a cop is saving my life at the end of the day and risking his, he can run red lights and take steroids all he wants. You're the person telling them that they shouldn't judge you for it because they're doing it. But you're judging them for it at the same time while you're doing it. You don't run red lights for the hell of it, but you wouldn't move a finger to save a cop.

Ive seen somewhere on youtube or something like Kali told a story about how inmates where so big. According to the story its because like kronik420 said, survival of the fittest. Actually they said that natural test-levels were alot higher because you are around men and need to struggle to survive everyday. When you are fighting to hold you up, just eating, training, sleeping and maybe fighting around some your test-levels rise. Its like the old days of vikings or cavemen. Ive also read somewhere that in the late 1900 the natural test-levels in men has lowered, maybe bad diet and less hardwork(physical) has something to do with it.
All this ive just heard/read/seen somewhere so please dont take this for good fish, though its an interesting thing to consider.

It's probably more to do with stress, and anything kali says can't be taken seriously lol. I think it's very unlikely that your test levels rise in that environment, if anything they'd lower because your cortisol is through the roof in that environment.

I don't want a cop saving my life or even attempting to. I'm perfectly capable on my own and if not so be it. I'm judging them bc they arrest people that do the same exact fukking things they do and get away with while the normal citizen doesn't get away with it. How hard is that to comprehend? I wouldn't move a finger to save a cop no you're right....I'd move a finger to save a human life.

    1. Lifting is an escape, gets you high so to speak
    2. Lifting makes the joast easier because days go by faster if you exercise inside
    3. No woman or etc to take up your time, and the jobs are generally only regular 8 hour jobs if you even have a job inside, most of the time less than 8 hours, so there's plenty of time to play with, and when you're given the option of going to pump iron and feel great, or goto church with a bunch of child molesters running it, what are you gonna do?

You should blame the individual state, and the people running the departments that abuse their power. Cops aren't the culprits at hand there. They're given a quota every month that keeps increasing every year. The quota increases every year pretty much, and it's mainly because of the increases in violence of the citizens. That's why most cops don't pay attention to anything extremely insignificant like you're talking about for most of the month, and when the end of the month rolls around, they need to eat and feed families, they're forced to make arrests, give tickets ect. But again, it's not like they're giving tickets for nothing, it's funny how once they start trying to meet their quota it's so easy, because someone is usually breaking the law in some way almost everywhere. If people didn't break the law, they wouldn't have anyone to arrest.

I'd also like to say that it's less than 4% of cops estimated who use AAS. Think of all of the cops that don't want to lose their jobs, the old ones that don't believe in that shit, and the people at the top of the hierarchy who can't afford to.

Oh so a quota suddenly makes it ok to be a hypocrite? When I had trouble affording food and rent guess what? I picked up a second job. Quit making excuses for them. They know what they're doing is wrong yet they do it anyway and arrest/ticket others for the same behavior that THEY THEMSELVES ACT ON. If you can't see that you're blinded by your never ending devotion to hypocrites with a badge.

Funny you mention ppl usually breaking the law somewhere and getting ticketed for it. This is the Crux of the argument. They do not ticket themselves which is where the issue comes in. You're saying it's ok for one demographic to break the law whereas it's not for another. You yourself are perpetuating the hypocrisy of the police. As was stated before, you're either a cop, a relative or friend of one, or you just do the ride around days with them for shits and giggles.

  28. #28
Cops aren't all bad. I'm friends with one cop at my gym. He's the kinda cop that doesn't go f'ing with people. He pretty much told me you have to be riding around in a 94 Ford Windstar van on Plank Rd. on 4 donuts picking up hookers for him to pull you over. Lets most people off, etc.

Now the dickhead cops that screw over people on purpose, that's another story.
