If your symptoms don't subside, and you have health insurance, go see a DR and get an MRI. They will take Xrays first. But as Dumbells said, the ligament won't show in an xray. Xrays don't show soft tissue. MRI's do. Better safe than sorry. If the doc won't send you for one, find one that will. It is better to know exactly what the problem is, so your can work around it allowing it to heal faster.

Don't put heat on it. That is a common mistake people make. Pain is the result of inflamation. Ice it to reduce the inflamation. Besides, ice penetrates deeper than heat. I will also cause increased blood flow into the area to try and warm it back up. this aid healing. The only time I would not ice it, and would consider a brief heat compress would be immediately prior to a workout where it was involved. You don't want to work cold muscles.
