I read that you want no more than a fist (thin way, palm down) (so imagine a fist in the small of your lower back) space in between your back and the bench. Otherwise your not doing it right and you could risk hurting yourself.
Of couse, if you are a powerlifter or anything else that is a different story.
An extreme powerlifters arch turns the exercise into a decline press type movement. You will shift more stress to the inferior-sternal pec fibers. You would be better off doing decline presses, if that is your goal. Using a more natural arch will shift more stress to the medial-sternal pec fibers.Originally Posted by SwiftMove83
