The only thing trainers are good for are two things:
1) Training 40-80 year old men/women
2) Wearing baby GAP shirts when coming to work.
Because not everyone gets on Steroid.com and reads up on the latest info. Some people are not self motivated like us and they need guidence and help. There is nothing wrong with that at all. In fact it would be worse not to seek guidence.
And no, it is absoulty not a waste of money IF your trainer does his/her job correctly.
A great example: I had a client tell me that for the first time in YEARS he had the energy to play with his kids in the snow this past winter. So yeah probably worth the 50.00 an hour he paid twice a week.
I dont know about you guys but its pretty fcking amazing that we get to pick other guys brains like muscle science and Nark FOR FREE.
If I had the $ Id hire Nark.
I know what you mean, unfortunatly almost anyone can get certified and become a PT but that shit sorts itself out and those trainers dont last long. But this certainly dosent apply to all of us.
I only got a month left,... making sure I get my form right... the only thing that will stink is working out alone... I guess I will use the smith machine more to go heavy... also use more dumbells. any othe pointers....
True.
Outside the information resource... There're a lot of things you can't learn on your own.
When i say 'can't' I mean.. There're a lot of things which require direction and modification.
I as an experienced trainee and trainer still hire an extra pair of eyes sometimes during contest prep.
Because.. I don't know everything, even if I think I know most everything.
There's always some slight modification that i can learn and institute.
Furthermore...I can't see everything.
There're things some people do subconsciously.. Like raising one shoulder when pressing.. Retracting a single scapula etc.
Things that we don't notice.. that someone else can...
That someone else can see and change... by making us conscious.
There's a lot of info out there... and it helps to hire someone who knows their shit.
Because infinite info is all cool and good... But who has the time to decimate each and every single piece of info?
There aren't enough hours in a day...days in a year.. or years in a lifetime.
I was blessed to have my eyes opened by a coach many years back.
He gave me my platform...and i added information to it over the years.
I doubt I would be anywhere near as versed as I am now if it wasn't for him.
Years later... I've helped hundreds of people get in shape.
I've transformed by body innumerably... all on my own.
However.. I'd still hire him on my next contest prep without question.
There is always something to be learned.
..Always.
Agreed.
Agreed 100%
lol.
Hopefully it stays that way.
I mean... I do, do this for a living.
But I love to give back to the community.
Hopefully the community remains troll-free so I don't have to rethink that.
Allowing you guys to pick my brain keeps me sharp...so it's mutually beneficial.
I'm not insanely expensive at the moment![]()
If you need specialized help... hit me up.
I'm pre-booked straight up til the end of summer.. But after will be cool.
Not sure I agree.
Those guys seem to be fairly prevalent unfortunately.
That's why the profession gets knocked so much.
Personally.. I never use the term 'personal trainer' when referring to myself.
I'm a Fitness Consultant.
That's what i registered my business as.
Up to yesterday I did a small seminar at a modeling agency... The administration contracted me to train their models exclusively.
In the seminar I clearly explained that I am not a personal trainer.
Namely because I'm ashamed of the profession.
Namely because I'm the guy who the personal trainer calls when they come across something with no clear text-book answer.
A lot of personal trainers are just about money.
Not health.
A lot of them are salesmen.
True.
