Personally, I view electing a president like hiring an employee. You want the guy who's gonna make your the environment better. In the case of the highest government office, that is improving the economy, protecting its people, and providing the best opportunity for personal financial growth, helping provide affordable health care, social security, etc. I want the president to be the person who best improves the country. This is an example of how a non-issue plays on prejudice, fear and misunderstanding in order to win an election. I am not saying McCain wont do a phenomenal job as President. I dont know, but I am saying however, that this issue shouldnt be what's important in the upcoming election.
On a personal note, I own a beer bar in Santa Monica and have met alot of gay couples. Before this, I am sure that I could have my share of prejudice, however in my experience I have only known gay people to be good people who just want to be left alone-not unlike the rest of us. I dont see why they shouldnt be able to marry.
I believe in God, I dont see homosexuality as being natural, however if they are going to hell, thats for God to decide. Its not as if we legislate whether they can marry, they will stop being gay.
The religious right wing would legislate religion, sex, and just about every other facet of our lives if they could. Its every American's responsibility to vote their conscience, so I am not knocking them for their views, I just dont agree.

It shouldn't, but it will. I've seen it happen time and time again in elections here in Texas, and I've seen Jerry Falwell and other TV evangelists grossly misrepresent gays on their TV shows, with the result that lots of inflamed religious right-wingers get out to vote against gays, because their minds were too addled by religion (or just unable to understand anything more complex) to vote for progressive candidates who would vote to protect children and old people, and who would vote to prevent utilities and insurance companies from raping Texas consumers.

Yep, the religious right hates gays so much that they'll vote for Satan himself as long as gays can't marry.
