Dips are not only good for tris but also ur chest as well. esp the inside. Theres 2 diff. kinds of dip bars the one that is slanted outwards hits the inside of the chest nice. Leaning forward while doing them usually causes that.

You do need to be careful when going heavy on dips. My buddy was going heavy and seperated a rib and now has to let it repair for a month (no upper-body workouts). When it happened he said he felt a sharp pain in his sternum.

you are stretching cartilage. no ex works "part" of a muscle.

ok well how about an actual answer as opposed to "dips are the shizz"....if you're experiencing pain then something is probably not right and you've pulled or stressed some muscle. Although i'm not a dr. or an expert, i would recommend stopping the lift for awhile or at least start by lowering the weight...plenty of other good exercises for tri's. If you think its something serious, nothing wrong with seeing a dr about it

yeah i agree about not going TOO heavy...

took me about 2 months to let my elbow heal up after a few weeks of very heavy dips (sets of 4-5) did a number on it
