They had a segment on NBC on monday night with BOB Costas about Phelps's diet. Apparently the guy doest know how to cook, so he eats all his meals out. They sent camera crews to all the restaurants in his home town and interviewed the people that worked there. They all listed everything he gets usually.

Imagine how much money it would take a week to eat that amount of food. Now imagine how expensive it is to eat all your meals like this in restaurants. you're talking about $30-50 per meal. How much do professional swimmers make?

This thread is funny because I just saw the special on the tv at the gym and I was going to make my own about it.

I think anyone who believes that he takes down 12,000 calories a day is a little gullible. I mean MAYBE if 6,000 of it is in liquids through energy drinks then he could get down that much.

I don't know jack about gene doping, in fact I thought someone was just making it up when they first mentioned it, but I will say this: Back when I was clean, and playing competitive hockey, I probably spent 6 hours a week in the gym, 12 hours a week practicing, and 5 hours a week playing. Thats 23 hours a week of training.

Anyways, my point is, I ate any and everything I could get my hands on, and never gained a pound. Same as him, pizza, hot pockets, pasta, taco bell, arbys, more pizza, home cooked pizza, pizza pockets (i am obsessed with pizza if u cant tell) any and everything I could, and I also went out and got hammered 1-3 times a week.

And at 6'0" I never went over 185 lbs. Man, I do kinda miss being in that shape, I was fast as F'n lighting with a 95 mph slap shot. But, still wasn't good enough to even be considered to play pro, so I like having my muscles.

But I believe he does eat all the garbage that he wants, he just burns it off as soon as it goes on. I just don't think anyone could take down 12k a day, doesnt seem plausible. Oh and as far as crapping all the time, I actually didn't that much, just one good one a day, probably because I was burning nearly everything apart.

I am sure because of who he is he probably gets taken care of nicely when he eats out. I was watching something on him lastnight and he makes 5mil a year with endorsments.

Google "Phelps million" and you'll find a lot about his worth/earnings. Here's a quote: "Phelps reportedly earns about $5 million a year from endorsements although his agency Octagon declined to comment. Portnoy forecast this rising to about $30 million, short term."
