My wife is brasilian. I was talking classes for a while, 4 students down to 3. One was slow, one spoke spanish fluently already (lots of crossover understanding) and he would domintate conversations with the teacher. I was supposed to be english learning portuguese. The teacher didn't lay down the law so it got to the point that I didn't even want to go to the class for free it was so frustrating with that dickhead yapping in spanish to the teacher. I didn't want to play referee so I quit.
I work like 60-70hrs/wk plust doing workouts now so it's on the back burner. I don't have the disipliene to teach myself with tapes and books, I already have them. I might to 1 on one classes in a few years. I have ppl in Brasil to translate for me and run interference for me already so that isn't a major problem, but it is one I plan to address eventually when I can make the time.
If you do get around to it, Rosetta Stone. Ive learned SO much German recently. Its my 5th language. Trust me my friend, its worth every penny!
I grew up learning Portuguese, Spanish, and English. But between that program and travling, ive learned French and am learning German.
