I tried hooks, maybe I'm not using them right but straps seem more effective. How do you use them?

I use gloves and wrist support together with the towel.
I will probably try this next week. I am going to look into buying some new straps also. API has some that have rubber in them I guess that could help. I thought yesterday about getting some old truck inner tube and cutting it and making it into a rubber strap, I have never seen them. Or possibly having velcro sewed on to a pair of straps.

Workout your grip and your forearms bro... Straps should be more than enough to help you lift 5 plates, i'm not knocking you. But i don't think you need to find a better route than straps, just make your grip stronger

I agree, that's why I don't use straps until I have to. I don't think my grip is weak, but I'm not one of the gifted ones that can deadlift really heavy weights without no straps. When I'm working my back, back is my priority, forearms are secondary.

Have you tried over/under? I myself can't do it for the life of me, i lift crooked and stuff when i try. But my friend can lift over/under very well, or maybe even over/under while wearing straps. Coleman does that
