    Help w/ Mac (Safari)

I will be surfing the net for about 5 minutes and then just get kicked out.
I don't know what the hell is going on and its pissing me off.

Anybody experience this? Know what to do? Any help?

from the safari menu, choose reset, then hit reset in the dialogue box.

(I'm pretty sure this is right, I haven't been on a Mac in a while)

Not sure if you're still having problems, but Mac's are pretty easy to deal with.

What exactly do you mean by "kicked out"? The internet in general or just Safari? Does Mail still work, etc...?

First would be to try another web browser. (Firefox, Opera, Omniweb) See if the problem continues. If so, try creating another account and see if it still happens. This will help isolate if the problem is with your account or a system wide problem.

I'll be glad to help if needed.

    I get a message:
    The application Safari Quit Unexpectedly
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.

Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.

Kicked out as in I get cut off from the net. Anything I'm doing that uses the internet I get booted from....like typing this post over and over lol

I'll dl Firefox and see. If not, Ill create a new account and see. Then post back.

    Thanks

It seems to be staying longer.
    10 minutes thus far

but I have to get to class. I'll give it a nice run of 2 or 3 hours tonight.

What could be wrong with my other account?

If Firefox is working in both accounts, sounds like just a bad preference file for Safari. (.plist)
Try Safari in the new account as well. If it works, then it's the preference file. If it doesn't, it's probably the application itself.

    Go to your Home folder~/Library/Preferences

Look for "com.apple.Safari.plist" and drag it to the desktop. Make sure Safari isn't open when you do this. Afterwards, launch Safari. It will create a new preference file. If all goes well, that should solve the problem. Make sure to be logged in under your account as well.

If not, upload a copy of the error report you receive. I should be able to figure it out.

Before you delete the plist, try disabling the fraudulent sites option. Open Safari then click on Safari>Preferences>Security tab>Uncheck Fraudulent sites. I know doing this stops safari from freezing and closing.

Ok. So I did the plist thing.

And it kicked me out within 5 minutes.

Then I unchecked the fraudulent box, and thus far, seems to be working. I've been on for 15 minutes. So we'll see if that does the trick.

What exactly does un-checking that box do?

It's designed to stop sites from opening that aren't what they appear to be, more or less. It's called phishing protection. It's supposed to warn you, then stop the site from opening. In your case, it was causing the crash, it seems. Never had a problem myself with that issue, but good catch on tommy's part!

But I wasn't going to any unusual sites. Just my regular ones.
Why would it all of a sudden start freaking on me? Am I at risk for anything by unchecking that box now?

lol, and do you work for apple or something?

I don't believe restarting my connection router would do anything. It happens everywhere. Here, school, at friends...

If you can, copy and paste the entire crash report and post it.
Also, are you using the new (beta) Safari?

As mentioned, try another browser and try both accounts. Let's see if we can isolate the problem.

If it happens again, I'll post it. But it has been running smooth ever since I unchecked the box. Except that one time when I was looking at pictures.

Actually, I could probably make it happen by checking the box back...lol

I have no clue if its the "new" safari.

With Safari open, go to the menu bar, Safari / About Safari
It will show which version you're using.

If you want, try downloading the new Safari. It's seems very stable so far. It may even fix your problem...

I'd just stick with the old Safari since the new v4 is just a beta and buggy. The fraudulent site box is just a bug (fairly common) in the latest Safari v3 and will probably be fixed next update. Mine did the same and hasn't did it yet other than the odd crash like you and the Kobe pics.

Ok, so I got safari 4.

Everything is running great, except, I can't open any of my emails off of hotmail.

I'm going to dl Firefox now and see if I can open them with that.
Because thats kind of a big thing lol

    Firefox works for my email.

    I wonder why safari 4 doesn't.

It's one of their known bugs they are working on.
This is a temporary solution to the problem:

    1. Go into Safari>Preferences>Advanced Tab>choose the show Develop in menu bar tickbox.
    2. Go onto Hotmail> log in
    3. Go to Develop (which should now be in your menu bar between Bookmarks and Window.
    4. Choose User Agent>Firefox 3.0.5 (Mac) or any other Firefox version, which appears.
It doesn't retain the settings, but it's a temporary workaround for now. But the Develop menu will always be there from then on.

how much ram does it have? it could just be that cookies are taking up too much and when you browse, any flash or ads put it over the top. usually macs come pretty stocked up though...

i would try firefox, i like macs, but not really a fan of safari

In fact there's been quite a few of us experiencing the problem application Safari has unexpectedly quit. I opened my problem to the Apple Care and they finally had me uninstall it and reinstall the older version. I'll wait a few months until I try to update hoping they get whatever it is fixed.
