A top notch athlete could certaintly compete at a professional level right now, with 1 year of full time training. Yeah you can do the samething in boxing doesnt mean your going to win.

It will be that way for awhile too.
Your top tier athletes have the choice of NFL, NBA,MLB, NHL, they can get full rides through college off these. They can play for 15-20 years, making millions of dollars a year, millions more in promotions.
Or they can drop out of college, try to get on TUF and make 100k, maybe a career with 10 million if they are one of the best in the world.
I'm not taking anything away from MMA, I think it's great. But it requires less skill than most sports, even boxing requires more technical skill and training.
