I have been growing quicker than ever before with a low rep high weight workout scheme lately. I understand that optimal hypertrophy occurs between 8-12 but I am finding success with 4-6 reps. Any ideas why?

Ever hard of Max-OT? Its based off the low rep, high weight, high intensity workouts. Some people just make better gains with low reps. Personally, I have to be in the 10-12 rep range to see gains.
Mix it up is the win. Don't do any one things to long (imo more than 12 weeks).
While I have heard this is also not a good idea, I never repeat the same workout and change things from week to week.
How can you see progress on the workouts then? Imo a routine should last at least around 6 weeks
Its different for everyone. When my reps drop under 8 all I get is hurt tendons, and sore joints. Its 8-12 for me. Also I will stick with a workout until I'm no longer getting results from it. For example if I'm using the incline hammer bench and I have not went up in either weight or reps in about two or three weeks, I'll stop doing them and go to incline dumbbells for a little while.
