my wife has sciatica for years, and now its too late for her to do anything because she waited too long, the only option she has now is a surgery but she rather live with pain than do a surgery. since yours is fresh I would see a doctor as Steve suggested, it could be taken care of with minor therapy. I hate dead-lifts, so hard on the back. good luck bro...

Bass, tell her to get it done. I had my L5/S1 done years ago and it was no problem. I was back and squatting 405 for reps within 9 months. Sciatic pain sucks and there is no need to live with it. It's to the point where the procedure is pretty simple. Mine was nearly 10 years ago and I walked out the same day and got in a 2 mile walk the same night.

sounds like you may have pulled your piriformis, an inflamed pirformis can cause sciatic pain.

I would go have it checked out for sure. I have the pain that goes down the back of my leg now due to a herinated disk L5. Still been doing alot of therapy no surgery yet. Just be careful with it

Thanks for all your advise. Ilooked up the symptoms for piriformis, and think that could be it! If I sit down for more than an hour it starts hurting in my left butt cheak.ill still get it checked out.hopefully they can get me a mri scan but shall I just ice and heat it? Stretching aswell? Don't want to irritate it.got a big competition in august so got to be 100 per cent. If I can!!! All advise is really greatfull thanks.

I would ice it only. It helps the inflamation to go down Thats what they told me to do

ice it 15 - 20 mins and you can do that every hour

Not sure what it is based on your brief description. But it I can say that it's not sciatica. Should you experience it, you'll know because it won't be isolated pain. Yes it may move, but even then it will be (if not far) further reaching. That network of nerves is vast, dense and well connected. You'd also be experiencing tingling in your lower extremities (at least one) and/or minor to major numbness. Definitely get it checked, but its doubtful an x-ray would be conclusive, so push for an MRI.

    Best to you.

I hurt mine deadlifting as well it feels more like a muscle pain, but its my lower left back like right above my butt cheek. Its been hurt for about 2 months and I have done it before. Basically it hurts anytime I move and sometimes it can be absolutely awful when I run or step weird or lift anything and bend. Just about everything makes it hurt. But im going to the doc on mon.

I had L3/L4 done 5 years ago. I wish I had not waited so long but mine was OBVIOUS rupture.
L5 went almost exactly 2 years later. I had NO choice but to have it done 10 days later. I had NEVER been in so much pain and could not walk.

If it's only sciatic never and it can last for months only 2 things have ever helped me. ICE and most of all Prednisone.

After 1 day on Prednisone I started feeling better and in a couple days 50%.

Good luck to you but if you have not been doing it regularly get on the ice now. 20 minutes on 20 minutes off and do it a LOT like 3 or 4 hrs worth a day. made a huge difference once I actually did it. Dont forget about the prednisone also

No, no and NO, gear will NOT help. Not deca or anything. Ice will help and talk to the doc about Prednisone. Trust me on this. EVERYONE who I know who had had sciatic nerve issue THANK me once they try prednisone..
