    Cross fit

I know most of you are
Bodybuilders but I need to lose 30 + pounds and get into some kind of shape.
    Any one try Cross Fit?

I did my free workout today and 10 min kicked my ass. I think I am going to sign up for amonth it is not cheep 200 bucks but it looks like there will be some on there to put his foot up my ass which is what I need.

You can do crossfit by yourself all you need is a combination of compound movements with very little rest time. Basically, all you are paying for is motivation and someone showing you how NOT to use proper form (most anyways). That is just my two cents think of it what you will. Google circuit training and create your own routine and you will see similar results without 200 dollars missing every month.

the one benefit from crossfit is the conditioning. i don't like the way crossfit basterdizes the oly lifts. like buck said, you can come up with a comparable workout on your own.

If the motivation is what you need then go for the ass whooping classes. It is deff. challenging and I must admit I had to vomit the first 30 minutes. Crossfit has a website, on the site they show most of the exercise in wmv. format to watch. Once you know how to perform and what to group with. Just apply that to your work out dude. If I'm not wasted by the end of my workout I try to group the similar movement/muscle group and perform 2-3 rounds of crossfit. Good luck.

VR, I'm a current crossfitter and have been for three years off and on (wife, job, kids = off part). I love it! I didn't read all the posts before this but, go to the main site, crossfit.com and there is all the info you need. The beauty is you can scale your workout to your needs, abilities etc.. Me and a bunch of guys I work with love it so much we converted a garage at work into a crossfit gym. Gym costs are high, ive seen from 80-150 a month, but its by far the best money you will ever have spent on a gym membership. Whats your optimum health worth? Globogyms don't cut it IMO. When was the last time in real life you had to bench press or curl something? Check it out, its great. FYI, if your not self motivated and need a kick in the ass, then you won't do it by yourself, get to a crossfit gym.

Probably about the same time I had to flip a big tire over and over again, do swinging pullups or jump up and down on a box for 60 seconds. BTW, I have two gym memberships, one is $9 a month and my LA Fitness one runs me $18.

This thread started with needing to lose 30 pound and get in shape. If that is the case and you have the cash to spare (3 months I'd recommend) and need to be motivated then flipping tires and kipping pullups beat out curls and bench 7 days a week IMO.

I can only speak from personal experience. Three years ago I joined a local crossfit gym weighing 218, 25% bf . My cholesterol was at 228. I committed for 3 months, ate proper ( not zone, just sensible with one cheat day a week) At the end of the 3 months I weighed 195, 18.5% bf and my cholesterol dropped to 178.

After the 3 months me and some guys at work built a crossfit gym in one of the garages at work for about 6 grand (the boss paid) and there are 8-10 guys crossfitting for free every week. I personally needed the ass-kicking to get started and had an excellent experience with learning the movements that are unique to crossfitting and olympic lifts.

Good luck no matter what you do, keep posting your results!

I used to workout there, hated the lack of weightlifting they do in general (especially lack of chest movements). Got bored easily but was very fun do to my competitive nature. I don't find it better in no way shape or form from lifting weights but to do along with weights its great. I used to copy a random exercise and do it every friday.

Both of these movements I referenced are dynamic by natureBy dynamic you mean using momentum as opposed to muscular contraction right? unlike a bench press or curl. I do agree with you that if self motivated, a person can save a lot of money and do it themselves, but it is a great idea for beginners to go learn crossfit and the proper forms. If someone was new to crossfit, I wouldn't want them to start overhead squats, thrusters, etc. without being taught it correctly.
Actually I dont have anything against Crossfitters other than the Anti Weightlifting Philosophy so many of them have. Well that and their propensity to videotape themselves working out. BTW, the bold is not mine, only the underlined italic.

Fireguy, I can't argue with you on the anti-weightlifting and the excessive videotaping. I did fail in adding that crossfitting is kind of cultish (as is BB) and although I do it and love it, I haven't drunk the KoolAid ( videotaping, joined a gym for a new social group). By dynamic I mean multiple muscle groups coordinated to complete a movement. I would argue that squatting and deads are pieces of a tire flip, not kinda like a tire flip. Enjoying the discussion.

all the crossfitters i know use lifts like squats, cleans, deads, presses, snatches almost religiously. i mean, weight lifting, along with gymnastics and cardio, is one of the three modalities that make up CF programming. maybe every CF gym differs in what they do or something?

anyways, i agree w/ emmett, i'd also like to know what some of the knowledgeable guys on here would recommend as far as gear for increasing crossfitting performance goes

Some of the cf gyms are actually legit and do provide a great deal of knowledge. Now with that being said of the 20 individuals I knew that crossfit about 80 percent of them are hopeless drunks that only do it to seem macho and lack any sort of real drive or commitment. Compound lifting whether it be crossfit, olympic, power, or bodybuilding is meant to be a individual sport that builds character and self worth whereas most I have seen fail to meet those standards and half-@ass crossfit for the wrong reasons. Now every one of those categories has their bad eggs as you were referring to the guys who do nothing but bench press and biceps curls. However, those aren't true bodybuilders and usually get injured just the same as the fake cross fitters.

As far as losing 30 pounds and getting in shape most of us would rather suggest a healthy diet, a strong workout schedule along with some research on how to properly perform compound lifts, and ASCM guidelines for cardio. Millions have followed these guidelines with great success without crossfit, p90x, or any other fad workout routine that promises to change their life.

Okay, today is a day of a few new starts for me. I have just finished off about 2.5months on somatropin at 5IU's a day 7 days a week. I have just switched over to daily GHRP2 at 2IU's and have started a twice weekly dosage consiting of Masteron at 1ML and Trenbalone Enanthate at 1ML (so I will take this on Mondays and Thursdays). I will be going back on Somatropin sometime in the near future.

In additon to all of this I just did my first crossfit routine at my normal gym. I can say that I've never been so gassed in my life. It felt insane that 10 minutes into a workout I could feel like that. I did my first 'Fran'.

Anyway, I've never done AAS before and this crossfit stuff is new to me too. I'll keep you guys updated if interested.

    Slainte,
    B

I am now doing a big body building work out courtsey of my trainer for the challenge. I have to agree with the lack of chest and arm work.
But my sholders and legs are always on fire.
