Bojangles: sorry for the confusion in the op. I graduated highschool in 04 and went to college for two years for what I was positive I wanted to do as a career (automotive repair and refinishing). I worked part time sales during college and excelled in that. Once I finished school I got a job in a body shop and realized I didn't want to spend the rest of my life sanding and painting cars so I decided to go back to sales full time. I've got sales in my blood so to speak. I've always been the company leader and have a great customer return rate. I just have the natural ability to bullshit and talk to people. I can find out what there thinking and use that to my advantage.
I decided to leave the car sales last January due to the failing economy, the danger of my job, and the ups and downs of sales. I did valet for a while which was ok but was a tipped based job where my money was based on the luck of the draw by how great a tipper the person was rather than how good of a job I was doing since the customer interaction was low. So I left there and got a part time job selling furniture. I have been top of this company since I got there but it's not interesting to me. There's no haggling on prices and no fun in the job. It's not challenging and that may be why I don't like it anymore. At first it was ok but now it's just the same shit day after day.
I'm currently enrolled back in college for mechanical engineering. I love to travel and ideally would like to do contract work after I graduate. The reason I want to get away from sales is because I'm my opinion it hard to make steady money in part time sales. Your customers want you to be available when it's most convenient for them and if you're not then a large majority of them will just talk to the next person in line. Sales are great but it's better full time. Being in school and trying to support myself I want something more consistent. I'll have enough stress with calc exams and the like that I'd like the money flow to stay steady rather than the ups and downs of commission based jobs.
I think I answered your whole post lol. Let me know if I missed something.
