    Exercisies that don't require abs?

The fiance is getting back to the gym tonight and still a little sore from the hernia surgery. Her doc has cleared to exercise but wants her to leave abs alone for at least another week.
Since we use our core in about everything we do, I was looking for some ideas she can use to get her thrugh this week.
I am guessing she is limited to walking and maybe some very light lifting.
If anyone can give us some ideas or tips that would be most helpful.

All I can think of off the top of my head is maybe some light lateral work for the shoulders, seated or lying down.

most definitely stay away from anything lower body, unless she's doing some really light seated calf raises. this would be a good time to do some walking uphill on the treadmill at a slow pace to get some burn in the legs.

upper body stuff i'd recommend any type of presses. since you're using light weights i can't see any strain being put on the abdomen region. flat / incline for the chest, upright for the shoulder.

After I got my hernia I had to go light weight/high reps for a while. Over the course of a couple months I was able to work back to my regular routine. I think I started doing about 30 rep sets, and just decreased by 5 or so every week while increasing the weight marginally. Concentrating on my breathing and form helped a lot too.

Honestly from what I remember anything hurt that involved heavy weight. I can't really think of any particular exercises that were any better. I think I stayed away from legs and shrugs for a while, and had to be extra careful with pull exercises.

After my repairs I started by walking and worked up to weights .
For a woman I would suggest a neoprene waist wrap like they use for spot waist reduction . ( pulled tight like weight belt )
Men can get a underarmor football support underwear/gear .

The internal pressure no matter what you lift or how you lift can cause pressure . Breathing correctly is imperative if you attempt any weight movement .

Take it slow and good luck
