A pure democracy is Anarchy.
Democracy as we interpret it is a victim of it's own brilliance and will eventually buckle under its own weight. When was free to be greedy a supposed right? A wise man once said that true democracy should be people free from the fear of hunger, freedom of oppression, freedom of fear. In the democratic west, we still have people that are homeless, that have no money, there is still oppresion. Where is the freedom from those things?
Intolerance, discourtesy and harshness are taboo in all good society and are surely contrary to the spirit of democracy. Ghandi
