For people saying they need longer sentences I agree, but that will not help rehabilitate them in anyway. So you're getting them out of sight and off the streets, but still when they get released they're going right back to do the same thing (most of them). Thats why I don't think they need more jail time as much as we more programs/rehab type facilities where they can get actual help during incarceration. As of now we have only 1 housing for pedos in NJ and its Avenel in Rahway. They do victim reflection classes and therapy but it is neither frequent or intensive in any respect. They should be mandated to complete intensive long term programs in a setting where there are enough qualified people to deal with them, prison does shit for rehabilitation both drug users and pedophiles.
Also, I get offended when people talk about these children like they're some hopeless/helpless damaged goods that have no hope in living a normal life again. That is largely bs. There will be higher tendences for certain things like drugs later in life but I speak from experience when I say its not impossible by any means to get over. I was molested for 2 years of my life between 11-13, sometimes violence was involved, but I am likely STRONGER now than if that never happened to me. I was young and didn't know how to cope so I turned to drugs to make myself invisible. However, drugs caused FAR MORE issues in my life then being molested ever could. I still get cravings at times to use my DOC, but I rarely if ever get angry or mad about the fact that I was molested.
My point is people need to stop viewing victims of sexual abuse like we're all fvcked or like the majority of us are gonna magically contract a psychological disorder over it. Its a terrifying experience, it can ruin some years of your life, but most people actually get over sexual abuse unlike a counselor said in here. The reason is all the ones who get past it, aren't even in counseling in the first place. So of course a counselor is gonna tell you a bias view on reality. I've been to groups before for sexual abuse and the majority of people in them are not damaged by any means. In fact, just like me so many of them have grown into stronger adults because of it. I can't tell you how bad it urks me to hear the damaged victim arguement to support your own agendas in burning pedophiles when many of you lack any insight into what it really does to peoples lives.
My opinion is this. If you get sexually assualted, and choose to throw your life away over it, you STILL MADE THAT CHOICE YOURSELF.
And I also think you may have been looking for an excuse to do it. I had to deal with 2 suicide attempts before one day I realized I'm not fvckn damaged, its the idiots around me EXPECTING me to be damaged that wind up making it so much harder. Like the shrinks who wanted to talk about the experience day in and day out for 6 years. That shit does NOT help victims of sexual abuse. Moving on and getting the fvck over it does. Like anything else in life. Sure I realize everyone reacts differently, but I'm speaking for the victims here. Many of them turn out a lot stronger than any of you would likely expect.
