I have been a "close miss" victim a few times. I lived in Georgia, 60 miles due west of Savannah, right in the middle of the thunderbelt. Before I tell this story, cut me some slack, i was 19 or 20.

We were 'hroom hunting, and the sky was getting ugly, then started to rain, like it does almost everyday at 4:30. We were in the middle of a pasture, and decided to haul asss back to the relative safety of "the trailer". I climbed this 4' tall wooden fence, spun around and ZAP! no more than 20 feet in front of me, a lightening strike on the ground. the clap of the explosion was Soooo loud! I could "feel" the flash of light right tothe bone. even though totally wet, i could feel the energy making the small hairs on my arms stand up. It was a very primal moment, and like any Neanderthal, I growled....... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
it was the only noise i was capable of at the tme.

And i had to dodge some lightening strikes a few times on my motorcycle over there.
