For me it just has to do with competing in strongman. Once im done with that I dont think Ill really care how strong I am just if I am happy with how I look. I started out at the age of 14 lifting weights, I was obsessed with body building. For years it never even crossed my mind to care how strong I was just how I looked. Then I met a pro strongman and he said dude your 6'3" with a descent sized bone structure, your genetics arent for bodybuilding its for strongman. So thats how I got converted. Ive been 250lbs with abs and spiderweb veins all through my body. I hated not feeling thick and powerfull. I wanted to feel like I could run through a wall if I had to and I didnt feel it at 250lbs

I had no idea you wanna compete in strongman. Honestly, I think powerlifting is gay... But I think strongman is sick. Just the suits and stuff in powerlifting and the 1/4 rep ranges and shit is just stupid to me. Don't mean to offend anyone. Strongman is sick.

I have been thinking a lot lately about trying to go for more strength but I can't figure out a reason to do so. I'm hoping that it would bring up my looks and physique but if not its just a waste of time.

Are you serious dude? Coming from a guy who talks about good? Really? Just busting your balls, brotha. Anyway, powerlifting is starting to move away from all the gear. Serious powerlifting is now reverting back to raw. Those are the most popular events. Check out the Olympia and Arnold powerlifting comps. The biggest draws come from the raw lifters.

I compete in both raw powerlifting and strongman. I use powerlifting to make me a better strongman and most strongmen do that.

Honestly twist if your looks are your thing I wouldnt strive to be incredibly strong because it wears the body out fast. I would add intesity with things like drop sets, super sets, negatives instead of always trying to up the weight

I don't understand the bold comment lol.
I think raw is impressive but its nothing like pulling an aircraft or boat.

I've got looks and I'm not trying to be a bodybuilder, just gain 15lbs muscle. I would like to get my bench up a little as I only bench 225 (8 reps or more, I never max).

Anyways this thread cleared things up a little. Although benching 600 if you weigh 400 is just as impressive (in my mind) as someone my weight benching 255 (not impressive). I actually think someone who could do high reps of high weight is much more impressive than 1 rep of really high weight.

I meant to say "looking good", lol!!!

Trust me pulling a plane (I pulled a f4 Phanton Jet), and it was a whole lot easier than benching 550!! LOL!!!

But the way, being able to rep weight isn't strength, thats endurance...
