Lyophilized hcg will last a few years at room temp (follow the exp date). But when kept in the fridge or freezer, it will last indefinitely. Once reconstituted, it must be kept cold or it will deteriorate fast (though this could mean a few hours or a week depending on room temp). It really isn't that fragile.

Lyophilized powder is when it is freeze-dried into a puck. (i.e. before reconstitution)
