U.S. captures first gold in wrestling!
Jordan Burroughs captured a gold medal at 163 pounds in freestyle wrestling earlier today.
Burroughs, 24, a former NCAA champion and Danny Hodge Trophy winner from the University of Nebraska, defeated Sadegh Gourdazi of Iran in two straight periods in the final after beating two-time world champioin Denis Tsargush of Russia. Tsargush had won the first round, meaning Burroughs had to win both rounds two and three. He came back to capture a bronze medal.
Burroughs also defeated former NCAA champion Matt Gentry, who went to college in the U.S. but represented Canada in the Olympics.
