That's been debated for years. Many docs argue elemental zinc is unnecessary because there is adequate supply in the food chain. I've seen a few recommendations in the past in nutritional pubs that supplementing should be less than 5 years, others say up to 10 is the max.
Routine PSA tests would provide some indication of prostate problems, however, as many of us have perhaps seen, anabolics can affect absolute PSA which is why urologists an Oncologists will more often look at PSA velocity (but PSA as a predictor remains somewhat controversial).
*Note: in our clinics we discourage any zinc usage among prostate patients.
I will usually supplement 50-100mg for 3-5 days if I'm fighting a virus as zinc upregulates immune responses (sustained uses however will eventually become immunosuppressive).
