I know your intentions are good but don't be too quick to judge. You know the saying walk a mile in my shoes before you judge me.

I can relate to his story. Remember 20 years ago the surgery was also not quite where is today. It's 1 of those things that at first you think you can live with but it slowly gets worse until it gets the point where you know you have to do something. It took 20 years for me to not be able to walk or stand more than 5 minutes at a time.

I had surgery on L 3 / L 4 and L 5 / s1 recently I started taking the TB 500 and for the first time in 4 years I have been able to come off all pain meds for over a month now.

Keep using the ice the way you are supposed to it honestly is your best friend when it comes to the sciatic nerve. The other thing I found that helps a lot with the sciatic nerve is prednisone. With prednisone I usually feel a lot of relief within 2 days.

Sorry to hear of the injury. Positive thoughts here-sounds like you can recover well
-ctscan is not a bad route to start...it cleared you of a fracture, cleared you of a defect such as spondylolisthesis, & somewhat localized the chronic bone changes to one level
-?l4/5 oa and narrowing...I'm sure a huge percentage of human population can say they have that and are largely symptom/pain free - keep it calm-it may not be as severe as one think
-bruising is a more superficial bleeding muscle thing-or frost bite ...but assuming that it's a muscle thing...rare to have muscle tearing in such an injury but it seems you have some...do ur body protected itself with strong muscle activity and u really strained things...my opinion then that ur severe pain can be more muscular tearing than vertebrae area tearing...so rest and relax...assume 6-8 weeks for muscles to rejuvenate and heal...yes with scar tissue ..but heal...if you had a Prometheus type surgery on ur abdomin and stitched together you would hurt and anything using those muscles would hurt correct?? So chill
-no serious neuro signs like leg muscle weakness (think foot drop), gross and rapid leg muscle atrophy, no loss of bowel and bladder control...so no acute rush for surgery - again, chill
-ct showed L4-5 changes...big woop...when a car tire goes flat how do you tell?..Tire closer to the ground (vertical narrowing) rubber squished outwards(horizontal). Many people have this. A fool would rush into survey as again...many people have it and it may not be the source of ur pain....
-at this time global antiinflams and corticosteroid to decrease swelling (joint /disc/muscle) pain pill for comfort and muscle relaxer to calm muscles is great
-save epidurals for later I recommend as with bruising like that...which is really only muscle related , any movement is painful and needs time to heal...putting a needle through torn muscle to get to epidural space seems rushed...
Cost was an issue..mris are pricey and ct shows fractures and defects fine for now
-tingling generally can be muscle referral, general back swelling, or some autonomic sympathetic referral...but not really helpful to localize a pinched nerve etc
-so rest, progress to gentle rom in lying...back...legs pulling up gently, lay on stomach gradually getting pain free extension range...
    - figure out a painter way to get on/off floor
-gradual train ur muscles to be upright a reasonable time a day
-consider back brace when upright/getting in car/etc

I'm thinking u have had the L4/5 changes for a while...and this unfortunate time it buckled under weight/technique/fatigue/poor warmup/whatever...and yes something popped (like a knuckle) and ur muscles worked hard to hold it all together...a strain/sprain. Treat it like one with rest/ice/backbrace/prescriptions...give it 4-8 weeks to let it all heal (discs/bones:joints/muscles do actually heal) and see how it recovers

Just opinion. Lots of panic here...but consider the fact that many people dive into surgeries and then...funny enough...take 3-4 months off to recover and do everything I've recommended...so was it truly the surgeries (general) that helped or forced rest/rehab

Dont underestimate the power of PT. I have a degenerative disc at l5s1 and there is only about 40% space left. @ years ago i herniated the disc so badly it hurt so bad to move at all i couldn't stand it. I couldn't stand walk, Or sit for more than a couple minutes at a time. I saw 7 different surgeons and all but one suggested i get a fusion done. I didnt do the fusion but i did the PT for over a year and i am almost pain free and in better shape then before the injury. My point is there is hope!!

Thank you very much Jim and jseek. You both give me hope. I found an orthopedics surgeon/sports medicine doctor who i am going to call on monday(they are closed on weekends). Also i really do like your physique Jim. so you give me extra hope to stay strong...

also jseek what you are saying makes alot of sense. because i didnt get the bruising till i put the ice pack on my lower back without any protection because i liked the real cold feeling on it.

and also i noticed when i would do barbbell curls sometimes my lower back would be pumped a little bit even though i didnt swing. so maybe i did have something like that for a while.

Bro make sure when you are training at the gym to avoid anything that compresses your spine!! I never do curls unless they are light dumbbells. The preacher curl is your best friend for working Bi's!!

I agree with this 100%, I hurt my back about 27 years ago and ruptured 3 discs, same deal they said I could suffer permanent nerve damage. Of course back then they wanted to fuse 5 vertabrae together.....So yeah now at 57 I do have some issues with my feet that are likely the result of years of pressure on the spinal bundle, but that beats the hell out of having 6 inches of my spine immobolized IMHO.
