I had to share an apartment to afford the rent. I never felt I was entitled to anything and the few times I had to ask my parents for money I felt very embarrassed and made sure to pay it all back before I bought anything for me or used it to play.
After my mom died last year I found a few notes where I had borrowed money and she kept track of all my payments. I was glad to see they were all paid in full. Maybe if some of these people went hungry or were left out in the cold for a night or two it would give them some incentive to find employment or work harder to get out of their current situation.
I have washed dishes, swept floors, dug ditches and worked full days in the rain, snow, weather cutting wood and such. I never felt I was above all that or entitled to more. I made the best of it and worked to move up or do better. If I had to I would go back to do any of them to feed myself and family.
