I keep my old lady in the decision making mix. What happens to me affects her, we're not married, but we live together and we're trying to start a family. It's not that you need her to give permission, it's that you two need to make the decision together. If she's not willing to sit down and work towards a decision with him, the OP needs to kick her to the curb (unless he's a pvssy and will just let her rule over him).
