I'm not 100% sure but the reason he may have been advised to stop 1 week prior to the show could be because of injection swelling.

I would consult fireguy, bg, or someone with contest prep knowledge. Sometimes pinning can cause inflammation that won't be desired by judges - just a thought.

It's always a good idea to only pin glutes if you can the last week before a show IMO in case you have inflammation issues.
