If you have a rapid pulse as well, try metoprolol ER (Toprol XL). That is the succinate salt of it, not the tartrate - 25mg ed is a good starting point and if that's not enough, then increase to 50mg ed. If your pulse runs low , you may want to avoid metoprolol and opt for amlodipine (Norvasc) 2.5 - 5mg ed, clonidine 0.05 - 0.1mg every 12 hours, losartan 25 - 50mg ed, or irbesartan 75mg - 150mg ed. There are many BP meds to choose from. I only mentioned some of the more popular ones and I only included ones that are genetically available. A diuretic, like HCTZ or chlorthalidone are good options as well. If you have an enlarged prostate or are at risk of it, then you may want to opt for something else, like Cardura or Hytrin - both are available as genetics as well. If you give me any pertinent medical info, I can narrow down the list of BP meds for you. Also, the doses mentioned are for ppl with normal blood pursues to start with. If you generally run high, then you will need a higher dose on cycle.
