I love the health benefits I'm getting from cooking with it! So if I can eat it, and not taste it, anyone who tells you they can is imagining things! (Unless you are using crap quality oil)
Ill keep that in mind. It doesn't have a taste to it but it definitely has a smell. I love that smell. It cooks so good. I'm starting to use it more and more!

Z, I'm known as a super-taster which is to food what a "nose" is in the perfume industry. I actually have about 50% more taste buds than the average person... So almost everything is a more intense flavor for me. My husband once thought I was nuts cause he bought me one of those slices of pound cake that's individually packaged at a convenience store and after taking one bite of it, I handed it to him and said it had coconut in it so he could eat it.... He didn't believe me so he read the label.... Down at the bottom of the ingredients list (which I hadn't even glanced at) among the flavorings and colorings and such was "coconut powder" and "coconut oil".... If I can't taste it when it's cooked with in a good quality oil (76degree melting point in case it matters), then it's pretty much impossible.

Before I get asked: you can be tested to find out if you're a super-taster or not. They dye your tongue blue and then put a card with a hole in it over your tongue. If you have more than x number of taste buds inside that hole you're considered a super-taster. When I was tested, my number was 150% of whatever number it was they were looking for.

That's awesome! I believe that classifies you as a superhero! Do you have any favorite brands of coconut oil?

So far, I've been happy with LouAna (76 degree melting point). The higher melting point one from LouAna I wasn't as happy with. Some of the organic ones actually have coconut shreds in them, so I don't like those... As a rule, I avoid the Asian brand ones b/c those are actually meant to convey some coconut flavor to foods. On the other hand, I only buy my Grapeseed Oil from an Asian market. Also, if you have an Indo-Pak in your area I prefer my almond oils from there.... (Did I mention I'm not a picky eater, but I'm very picky about ingredient quality?)
