Hey guys n gals, been looking at a new semi cheap sports car for the lady friend. We've been leaning towards the Subaru BRZ, Toyota is pushing us hard to buy their FR-S but we like the options on the BRZ better. Scheduling a test drive in both for next week.
Anyone driven one of these yet or have any input would be great.

Yea we were looking at some of the 2013 convertible Audis as well. Very nice looking cars! Would also be teaching her how to drive manual in the vehicle too lol

They're essentially the same car with the Scion being cheaper and the Subaru having more options. I personally like the exterior of the Fr-s better but the lack of options does lower it a few points.
Both are sporty little cars. Too bad Subaru didn't make an STi version

Yea personally I like the front of the frs way more but the options in the subi are so much better!
And yea the STI would be fun! Apparently it's in the works lol

I also heard an sti version is in the works......OP, got to drive one for a few mins in a empty parking lot......Was fun as hell....very snappy for what it is.

Why are you going with manual? Personally I don't see a use for it unless its a truck or a high performance sports car. Anything that is driven daily I like auto, less hassles and no clutch worries.

Manuals are a bitch, but they're fun in these little cars. I had a manual TC when they first came out. It wasn't fast, but it performed much better than it's automatic counterpart. These little engines really don't do anything until the higher rpms so it's nice to be able to have more control if it.
That being said, I only owned it for a few months until it got totaled and even at the point the fun of the manual was fading.

Hmm that's the first time I've ever heard someone say go auto lol. Ill keep that in mind though. I figured manual to make if a little more fun

Fun yes but just how much or how often do you really get a chance to play and you can manual shift an auto to hit higher rpm. Manual is just a pita in trafic and any hills any typically a lot harder for women.

I brought one on the track last year, it was fun, but seriously underpowered. Slid it around the track for a few hours, burned through a set of tires, don't think I would buy one as a dd though

Good points about them are the boxer motor in them is made by Subaru and the factory warranty is 20yr/200k warranty but I'm still sketchy about the scions. I just bought the 13 Tacoma at 0% interest and 20yr/200k warranty as well. You can't get much better than that. They have the same warranty on the Nissans too so go check out the Z's. About 10k more but more car. Only fall back is they drop quick in value.

I thought the same thing... We get between 3-5 and mitsubishi and Hyundai go to 10 if you buy it

Been around a few years. Check it out. I was surprised myself when we bought my fiancées Nissan juke a few years ago. I decided I wanted some of the action too. 2 years free maintenance too. I couldn't pass it up.

Make a list of what's most important to least and put toyota and subi on each side.
I use to be in car business and I made finally decision on
1. Gas mileage
2. Resale value
3. Warranty options if new

my buddy at work is driving a FR-S. its a cool looking little sports car but its pointless to me. has no guts and the interior is junk but it does turn heads on the outside when driving. but when grand prixs are coming up and blowing it away its not really a sports car.

Just a little safety info, my friend was rear ended at 50mph and crushed into the truck that she was waiting to turn in front. That Subaru saved her life, very tough cars when crashed, I couldnt believe what that car looked like and she only had whiplash. Crushed on both ends. Emt, fire and police could not believe she walked away from it, they all came up and said that to her.

Oh wow lots of input haha. 200hp is pretty gutless for a sports car. Beats the olds cutlas she's driving now lol. Ultimately I'd like to get a wrx sti but we will see about that. I'd like to just pull up to the house with a new car without her knowing, see how bad I'd be in the dog house.
