thanks. we did just that (weekend getaway) the first weekend i got the bike. my RKC doesn't have near the cargo capacity that your bike has, so we had to pack pretty light. most of our riding, though, is 30-45 minute drives on local county roads.

    don't see the fan...

btw, for some reason, i'm not surprised you're a harley rider!

look closer. it's mounted in the same place as the horn. My engine runs hot with a 10.5:1 compression, amongst alot of other things.

I have a quick disconnect on my back tour pack. comes off in 45 seconds, and will make my bike less "bulky".

It has fairly decent handling and can be upgraded with things like a GSXR front end (300-900) as well as things like an ohlins rear or again a gsxr rear shock.

Ok, so here is where we talk about why it is a great bike and will make you a better rider faster. Being around bikes most of my life I have seen guys that ride liter bikes their whole bike lifetime. They never learn to "ride" they lask the skills of a "rider". Sure they get around town and loft the occasional front tire, but you take them into the twisties where bikes are most at home, and they shut down. They never learn to corner is the problem. Most of the time you can tell a liter bike rider because they brake waaay to early, coast, then roll on the throttle like a mad man to make up for all the time they lost. The motor letting them stay with their friends on their 600's while passing them on the straight like a bawce.. right..

So a 600 will make you work harder on the track and in the mountains because you do not have 180 hp to help cover up your mistakes. In the case of the SV you get around 74 hp (a 600 is around 110 to the ground).. So with the SV you have to brake as late a possible, if at all.. Then ride the absolute limit of you tire (which is forgiving at 74 hp thru it,) making sure your body position is perfect attaining near yoga like body positioning s you drape yourself over the bike getting to max throttle as soon as you possible can (and perhaps you never let off the throttle...)

As a complete novice it is confidence inspiring, unlike a 600 which can feel knife edged to a noob. In essence the 650 will allow the rider to learn the skills on a bike that is safe and leaves a larger room for error. Because of this the rider progresses faster. Going slow is the bast way to learn to go fast. No shit..

I built a bike once that was a ten second machine. wicked fast. would pull a wheelie by rolling back the throttle at 60 or 70. kinda spooked me a litttle, as it was a touring bike (Kawi LTD 1000 1979) with a heavy front end.

can't imagine rolling back a throttle at 120 and the front end coming up

fastest i've ever been is 155 on this bike. it would go faster, but no body fairing, and no windshield, so it was like a hurricane at that speed. bikes nowadays i'm told can hit 200mph no problem.

Hell yeah 200mph is easily done, mine is currently restricted at 185mph. The fastest ive been on her to date is 165mph but its still winter here and ive only had it since October putting 200 miles on it from new. Once the weather improves i shall have the ECU flashed taking all the restrictors off which will then give me a top speed of 205mph.....

that was the other thing in the back of my mind. at 155mph, i was going faster than the tires were rated.

I was having the harley dyno tuned a couple of years back, and the speedo was registering 160, when the back tire blew out. they're just not rated to go that fast on the harleys.

but now that i look, the newer bikes have tires much improved than what they were 25 years ago

    SV650 VS 600cc supersports.

Check out how down on power he is but how fast he is in the corner. He get on the gas faster and brakes later if much at all. The key is to learn to be able to take this technique to the next higher HP level of bike so you can ride. If you can even do this on a 600 cc supersport, that is hero status..

My point is: Get a sv650 if you like or even a 600cc supersport. Goto riding school then track school then do trackdays. Learn the skill of riding and sometimes that means swallowing your ego and not getting the baddest bike on the block. If you goto trackdays, you really think you want a 1000cc machine to learn the ropes? Yikes!

My last bike was a little Honda Rebel 250cc limited edition with a lot of gold trim from the factory. It only had 300 miles on it when a neighbor asked me if I wanted to trade for 2 coffins. Yes I said coffins. Just another one of my bizzar life stories. I had 5 high quality coffins at one time. I still have 1 old lower quality satin covered ones I use for Halloween. They cost me $100 each so I got the bike for $200. I later sold it for $1200 since it was like new.

Ah, the hp4. Yes that's like my bike on gear hahah. Yes I course I want one. Hate the fact that you would still have to ale off the stock akropovic exhaust because of the catalytic converter but other than that, if you can get it.... Do it. I'm buying the hp4 for my husband. Can't wait either. If you get one, I would love to see pics

My last street bike was a suzuki SV1000, vtwin sport bike basically. It was a lot of fun for the first couple years when I had a twisty canyon close that had clear roads, do wheelies around the neighborhood too. But then moved to where there is a lot of big game and very dirty roads. Sold as it stopped getting used. Had an old honda shadow that I really liked. Still have dirt bikes and always have and will. If I got another street bike it would reflect on where I live and what I am going to do with it. I would like a chopper of sorts, something simple looking if I was going on short rides, my last bike was terrible for long rides, and sitting forward is awful with a passenger. If I was going on longer rides I would get something with more bells and whistles, more comfortable etc.

Just remember if you get the sport bike if your lady rides with you your wrists will kill if doing a little longer drive, sure if it's 15 minutes one way and back and the occasional hour or two solo ride with others is one thing, but even that longer ride can get uncomfortable. The thrill is nice, but if you are like me you can't drive the speed limit, which results in two things, speeding tickets if you don't try to ditch them, which you usually can. and then accident, injury and death. I have had numerous close encounters with other drivers, so close that my leg brushed a car that pulled into me. Have had to slam on brakes and slide sideways, luckily didn't lay it over, every time it was the car drivers fault. Not to mention there's the possibility of someone using their car to try and attack you, it does happen. I live in CA and lane splitting was legal, but a lot of people don't know that and get pissy cause you get home after work three times faster, so there have been cases of purposely running into bikers.
