Stats have been working as RN for 8yrs currently working on MSN. I believe drug she’s probably on is levothyroxine. It’s the main drug that I administer to patients that have hypothyroidism. It’s a synthetic derivative of thyroxine, and it normalizes blood levels of TSH, T4, and T3. When it normalizes blood levels it will cause her to lose weight. Her Doctor should have educated her that since levothyroxine is identical to the thyroxine the body manufactures, side effects are rare. Doctors and nurse educate the public but does the public always understand? No! Her Doctor should have had her repeat back her understanding of the medication. If she’s confused about the medication she should contact her provider and have him clarify any confusion that she is having.
