AVI is also, in addition to one of its definitions which you already pointed out, is also used as an abbreviation for Avatar as used in computing, which you also defined above. I have not seen the shorthand 'AVA' used in this way. AVI is used correctly in the title of this thread for the context in which it is presented.

I have never seen AVI used as shorthand for Avatar except for on this forum.
