Should Humanity Try to Contact Intelligent Aliens?

my opinion is this... that it would definitely end up in a inner planetary war.

We (our government/defense sector) would not just say "welcome lets have some coffee and compare notes" we would take aggressive action to detain ET's upon their arrival until we felt they were not a threat at the very least. Even then I doubt we would not keep them under lock & key for "observation & study"
Now take into consideration if a civilization of ET's were able to receive/understand our signal/message and had the technology to come to our solar system then they obviously would be FAR more technologically advanced than us. Sooooo do you think that they would just lay down and accept the fact that we are treating their comrades as prisoners under the guise of our nations security?
This is based upon the thought process that we could even subdue or contain the ET's upon their arrival.
God forbid that the initial landing party of ET's take our act of "preservation" as being a hostile encounter and just start destroying us from the get go & then call for back up to finish the job.
I say leave sleeping dogs lie cuz they're not all Lassie.
We are a much too aggressive, scared, immature & greedy species to actually have a positive encounter with another species without trying to destroy them or capitalize at their expense.
Heck we can't even get along with our own species if they have a different skin color!! How do you think people would react if it wasn't even human?

I didn't disagree with anything. All I did was play wordsmith and change something. I think I red fonted it. Inner planetary means one thing, but I changed it to "inter" planetary because that would mean a war between planets. Inner planetary would mean something internal.
