Welcome to the forum. Of course gaining weight in the joint is probably a benefit. But carbs make you feel full, but are not good when trying to build muscle. You need to change more food from carbs to protien. This will help you pack on muscle more than carbs. I used to live in Japan, and the sumo wrestlers would eat a ton of carbs and take a nap to pack on pounds, but like you mentioned it is not to build muscle. Carbs are great in that they make you feel full for a longer period of time than protien. If you eat a lot of meat without cabs you will be hungry again soon. But protien is what you need to pack on the kind of mass you are looking for. Good luck and check out the diet section. You will get a lot more information that is relevant but I just wanted to offer some basic info to get you started. Good luck and congrats on your freedom. That has to feel great!
